Ever since I have owned my boat the button on the side of the shifter has always been really hard to push in in order to get the engine into neutral. I mean, really hard, like forget trying to push it, it actually takes a karate chop. I have taken the shifter apart, but can find nothing that moves that is easy to get at when the button is depressed. Anyone have an idea how to fix this?

What, is everyone out on their boat this weekend? :)

Well, after 5 years of being a pain in the arse, it has finally stopped working. I am no longer able to get that neutral button pushed in so I can use the throttle in neutral, ARAAAAGH!!! So, looks like I need to replace it. Anyone have a recommendation and can I use my existing cables or do I need to replace the whole thing? The boat is for sale so I am trying to spend as little as possible. time to move to a bigger boat :) Thanks all

Since no one's responded in a month...
I'm guessing the shifter assembly with the neutral lock-out is similar to the one I had on my outboard boat (been a while).
Since the switch is spring loaded, probably a good possibility it's just corroded up inside and sticking. Is there a way to get a shot of Corrosion Block, or even WD into the switch by spraying around the perimiter of the switch with the skinny little straw/tube trying to force some in there?

Could be that forcing it over time has now busted it, but nothing to lose at this point. If you have the "universal" Morse 3300 series style cables, most shifters will be compatible. Here's one from Teleflex:

Ended up buying a Commander 4000 and looks like I can use my current cables. Wish I would have done this 4 years ago

You can def use your old cables if they are still in good shape although when i put my new shifter on i had to adjust the throtle cable a little as the cables mounted on in different places on the back of the shifter which made the cables a little off.
