"Always retrieve the Nettle Net prior to any storm" :smt021 :grin::grin:

Looks interesting to me as we have lots of jellyfishes in the Mediterranean...it costs like a new dinghy though!!!!

Hi all

At the beginning of last summer(2009) there were millions of huge poisonous jellyfishes came from Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea to where I'm boating. They are Chrysaora hysoscella and also called compass jellyfish.

I heard this "boat pool" from a boating magazine and searched their site and ordered from USA, long story how it came a 8kg package to my country.

Its a great idea where the sea is polluted and my family is crowded 5-6 adults and at least 2-3 children onboard. Thisand there are too many jellyfishes which when hits you need medical assistance so it was compulsary for us.

It is easy to prepare by a foot pump but hard to keep it on the sea which has 3 points to tie to your boat but only 2 tie could operate. When wind comes its too difficult to retain its circular shape.

I bought the biggest size suitable for "a gaggle of people"and gave for it lots of money about $1400 but it worthed and I amortised its cost.

Here you can see its shape on the sea

My parents have one. Although a clever idea, it is very expensive. Do the math from their ad, 113 * 6.18 = Holy @?*#!

At least it is unwieldy. As suggested earlier, it was used once and is now a bilge decoration. Also, the white netting turned brown in just one use, and the nettles that were being kept outside got all tangled up in the mesh upon retrieval. Yummy.

Wanna buy a used one?

They were at the AC baot show a few years ago but I don't think they ever came back. Way too expensive..even with the boat show discount...

We have the [FONT=&quot]problem here on the Chesapeake Bay, we get many stinging jellyfish and I had a pool built for $300, this pool would allow us to get in the water and cool off on hot summer days. I had a 10' x 15' x 8' deep pool built to use off my pier and we take it boating with us. It has floats around the top and weights on the bottom and I added a PVC frame to the top to help hold the shape. Works like a charm, had it for 6 years now. The company that built it for me is the Sterling Nets and Twine Co. (http://www.sterlingnets.com/). PM me for details and I will post a pic later.

I saw their ad in one of the boat magazines and thought it might be a good way to keep the kids from drifting to far from the boat.

We have had problems lately in our lagoon with Jelly fish... As the water gets warmer our kids can't swim in the water without getting stung... But, the reason why we are getting the jellys is from polluted water... When the water gets warm we go closer to the inlet to the ocean where the water is clean and there are no jellys... So I think it is a good idea to keep the jellys away, you still may be swimming in polluted water...

I don't know what kind of jellyfish you are encountering, rcknect, but the sea nettles we get on the Chesapeake are not related to pollution. Rather, they require a unique temperature/salinity combo to survive, as discussed here.

Here are the pics of the nettle I had made for us.
