We were lucky enough to have some Orca come and visit us West of San Juan Island, WA.
It was amazing.

We occassionaly get dolphins playing in the boat wake but an Orca, now that is pretty cool.

That is really something Todd when your that close the pictures we posted a couple months ago were about 300' away. We had a humpback surface coming in last Monday stopped the boat and waited about 5 minutes but it didn't surface again. A fellow at our marina last Friday had a Gray surface next to his boat just northwest of McNeil Island close enough to splash his boat with the tail. Great video.

I was in Vancouver on Saturday and I've come to the conclusion you photoshop your pictures and movies and remove all the crappy weather.

I was in Vancouver on Saturday and I've come to the conclusion you photoshop your pictures and movies and remove all the crappy weather.

It's best after the 15th of July. This spring has been awful though.

We can go out there and see them pretty frequently. They run between San Juan Island and the Vancouver Island's east coastline. They seem to stay on the US side more often.

A number of years ago I was teaching sailing in the Pacific off Monterey, CA in a 20-foot-ish boat when an Orca came alongside as close or closer than these did. The students got alarmed but I told them it happened all the time and not to worry; I had to do a shorts change when we got back.
