OK, I am as against painting wood as much as the next person. But, what I painted was not in fact wood so I feel I have not committed a sin.. What I did was paint these panels white. The reason,, The cabin still felt to dark to me. I needed something to brake it up some.

OK here is where I want your inputs......

Should I paint the head door white... Not the trim... Just the body of the door...... or should I leave it like this. I am often decisive and feel I have a pretty good grip on style and design but this one.... Ummmmm just not sure.

Opinions welcome.

Me too, and I hate to admit that that doesn't look half bad...

Do you plan to continue on around the corner and paint the galley wall too? I think I would leave the door as is. Most is covered with the mirror anyway. If you think about it, most interesting paint schemes have the door and trim a different color than the walls.

Besides, as you work on it and spend time around it you'll get a better feel for what looks right. You can always paint the door before later, a little harder to unpaint it later...

My $0.02.

Leave it.....it looks rich looking .....

doesn't look half good either!!! j/k

So the real question is: Did Heather go crazy during those cold Alabama nights? I think it looks good the way it is. White with all those thin lines of trim might look a little funky.

I like the painted look. In 1989 SeaRay switched from the dark fake wood "decraguard" to white panels, it really brightened up the boats. Check out Yachtworld and look at the same model boat from '88 to '89 and you'll see what I mean. I bought my '89 300DA over other years simply because my wife liked the lighter interior better.
I have nothing against the dark look as my old '82 260 was loaded with it, but I think the lighter look is more modern and makes the cabin appear larger.
JMHO

I think if you paint it it wouldn't look so good. The way I envisioned it was... look at all the color changes you're going to have in a short space:

Starting out at the furthest edge of the door "wall", and then working your way in to the mirror, you'll have: dark, light, dark, light, dark. I think it'll look a little too geometric.

If you do decide to paint the door, and if it was me, I would also paint the door frame (the wall edge trim is fine).

OK well like this it will stay..As for taking it on around to the galley, Not sure yet...
I don't want to do to much or I might as well paint it all.

Being in the business of home decor....
i would if anything,

#1 Get a new LIGHT berber carpet
#2 Get new covers LIGHT color for the fabrics
#3 new counter top or refinish in LIGHT color
#4
re-finish existing paneling with polyurethane finish.

I "wood" leave it the way it is. As a matter of fact if the door behind the mirror is wood i would remove the mirror...

#1 Will do, it will be the very very last thing done to the boat.

#2 Going to go with LED lighting, SO they fixtures will get changed when all is done.

#3. I had not thought of it. It would need to be painted in the head also since it is all one unit.

#4, I am not a fan of polyurethane on any thing.

All good points and well taken by every one so far. I am going to add up the yea's and Nay's and the Nay's have it so far.

PERSONALLY???? Neither am i...So maybe a new counter top

Lighter colors bring more light and open up the area....

I thought you were saying a clear polyurethane on the remaining simulated wood grain in #4

You meant polyurethane paint on the counter top?

did you paint the ceiling in place of the monkey fur? if so,how did that work out? i have pretty much the same layout on my'81 sundancer

No the ceiling is white fleece fabric with a 1/2" foam backing..
