Someone, in their ininite wisdom, decided it best to instal the electrical inlet on my 245, through the gunwale, instead of up on the side, like ever other boat on the planet. Of course, neither of the previous 2 owners know anything about it.

Anyway, I need to change this, so that my shorepower breaker stops tripping everytime we get a super strong rain. The water gets down into the plug, and trips the main. Needless to say, this is dangerous, not to mention the Admiral's constant nagging about some stupid stuff in the fridge going bad.

Once I pull this out of there, I can plug that hole with wood and epoxy adhesive, but what can I "finish" it with? Any ideas?

Thanks

I would either put a rod holder there or fabricate a stainless bolt on cap for the area. Not exactly sure where it's located, Maybe post a pic.

Apparently I can't upload a pic from work. Ugh. It's directly on the port gunwale, next to the sliding window. I think it's a 2" hole, so I don't think there's gonna be mounting much of anything there. Was thinking of just leaving the existing plug there, and buying a new one to install. Might look a little goofy, but it doesn't leak, and at least it looks clean. The more I research this, the more I think someone just added that plug in order to get power. I never really paid attention, but it looks like all residential stuff in there - with the exception of the wiring itself, it's marine grade AC cable. But, there's no AC breaker panel, etc. Guess I have a new winter project.

put a fuel, waste or water fitting with a cap in the hole and seal it off

Can you get to the back side of the hole? If so, glass in a piece of marine plywood to cover the hole from the inside, then layer in resin soaked fiberglass cloth in the hole and finish with gel coat.
