Anyone know how to get keys made? Lowes/Home Depot do NOT carry blanks for them in my area.

EDIT: Sorry. Was also editing my profile and assumed... 1989 Sea Ray 268.

If you have the # stamped on the lock you can order them from Flounderpounder marine...

Look at your key and/or the face of where you insert the key (remove the rubber if needed). Look for a letter. Any local Merc shop will likely have it in stock. I'm sure you can find places online, too. Worst case... a new key switch is about $30... and comes with 2 keys :)

Ended up replacing both ignition switches and the cabin lock.

Your resource's would surely would help the OP.

Unclear as to what your response means, but to clarify - in our case the ignition and cabin keys were so oddball that it was cheaper to replace the entire thing - and you get two keys when you do it. It's only $25 per ignition switch to buy a new one and it comes with two keys.

Anywho...

We found that our local locksmith carried the special blanks, but we are in a boating community. The True Value hardware store near the marina also stocked the key blanks. I think they are special order, not the standard blanks they get from their corporate supplier, so only stores near a large boating population bother carrying them.

Maybe for a newer model but for our 1993 there was nothing available - the locks and keys were quite unique. I have a locksmith we use in industry and I watched then spend 45 minutes trying to track down the blank for the cabin, comparing it to anything that existed today (and it didn't). They offered to physically make a blank and then make key but it was pointless - why spend over $75 and waste their time when a replacement lock with 2 keys is $25.

The following linked key website is a really helpful and easy to use website especially if you are able to locate the number either on the key itself or the lock/ignition switch, etc. which the key will be cut and shipped right to your mail box.
