Need some help please, baffling water issue

They probably put the tank in the bow for weight and balance considerations.

This would reduce the weight in the stern and/or free up the engine compartment for some other peice of gear they were trying to squeeze in.

It would also allow them to keep a variable weight on the centerline of the boat.

As to the wisdom of this decision.....

My 2006 260DA is docked right beside an identical 2005 260DA and it is amazing how much lower his bow sits in the water compared to mine. Conversely his aft section sits a lot higher than mine at the transom with an additional (estimated) 2-3 inches less of the hull in the water. All of this is undoubtedly due to the weight of his water tank in the bow. I think Sea Ray moved the tank in 2006 primarily because the fill location wasn't too convenient on the bow (2005 model) compared to mine which is on the starboard side just under the spoiler. Obviously another plus is if mine leaks it won't flood the cabin. It also gives you a way to balance the boat side to side (which becomes an issue when the holding tank gets full) because the water tank is on one side of the boat and the holding tank is on the other.

Hey Dave. The Manifold is on the port side wall in the engine compartment. Right next to the batteries.

That is odd. My 2005 260 has the water tank on the port side ahead of the water heater against the mid berth bulkhead. My holding tank is directly opposite on the starboard side.

So your water tank is under the V-berth cushions where the dinette table lives?

Dave - have you been for a ride on your neighbor's 260? I'm curious about your thoughts on how it affects the way that the boat handles. I was thinking about adding 75' of anchor chain, which might push my bow down a little. I'm tired of cringing every time some yahoo crosses my rode.

Thanks....it's good to be right once! (just ask my wife....)

That not what I heard, she was just letting you think you were right, not that you were. (just ask mine....):smt043:lol:

Im my 05' the water tank is in the ER in the same place as Skibums's. Do you have a generator in your boat?

I live in your town and also have a 260 DA, and would be interested in knowing what kind of failure you had in the fresh water tank. Other than leaving a small heater on in the cockpit, I don't usually take any more precautions with our relatively mild winters. Never mind just saw the post with pics. Thanks.

Never mind, just saw the pics. Glad it wasn't something worse.

Medic,

I had the PVC elbow coming out of my fresh water tank crack as well. My MM mechanic said it's a common problem. Must be some strain on them. My water tank is under my aft berth and the fresh water was going into my center bilge and being pumped out by the bilge pump. $.75 Home Depot part fixed it.

I've noticed a few dripos coming out of my water manifold, so that's my next project to tackle - just need a little higher "OAT" here in Atlanta!

That is interesting. Yeah, my water tank is up underneath the v-berth. I will figure out when in 05 and where mine was built and then see whats what.

Hey Carter. Also, upon reinstalling the tank I noticed they had left NO play in hose length to get the connection placed back onto the male end. I actually had to sawzall a hole to get my hand in through the opening to reattach.

Yep. The gen is the 5.0 kw Kohler. It sits amidships, just forward of the hatch cover. Gas tank is forward of the Gen.

I'll try to figure out when mine was built, too. Interesting to see the differences in the same boat from the same year.

I don't have a genny, but from what I see in the parts manual it would go on the wooden shelf over the gas tank.
The gas tank on mine is dead center right up against the midberth bulkhead. It is tucked in between the port FW
tank and starboard waste tank. I have enough room (approx. 14-20") to stand up between the crank pulley on the
496 and fuel tank.

FWIW, My bilge layout matches the layout in the 2005 SR 260DA parts manuals that I downloaded from SR.
The link I saved isn't valid any more or I'd post it.
