Hi All
Exciting times picking up my 2008 290 AJ next week. Boat is in Sayville, NY on Great South Bay. Would welcome advice on best route to get her to Guilford, CT. I have never boated any where but LI Sound. I could go out Fire Island inlet and come up East River which would be pretty cool to see Manhattan and Lady Liberty from the water, or I could take shennecock Canal into Peconic and out Plum Gut. Anyone with experience in that area I'm all ears? Looks like next Friday weather permitting.
Thanks

Did you think of hiring a guy to trailer it across long island to somewhere around Port Jeff?
I know when I was looking at boats on LI ( I am in Milford CT) that it was cheaper to pay someone to trailer it vs me "driving" the boat ALL the way around
I belive I was quoted about 250 bucks.
Just a thought

NY harbor is fun to do, but distance is probably shorter through Shinnecock. I would make the decision based on weather mostly, unless younthink you will never get back to NY harbor. Also, you may need local advice on FI inlet. GSB is very shallow compared to LI Sound.

Thank you for the feedback. I am inquiring about height restrictions with hardtop which is loaded with gear (KVH, Radar, Life raft) that would be much easier trip from Port Jeff!! If trailer isn't an option I am leaning toward NYC route cause it would be really cool!! Cant wait for Friday hope weather cooperates!!

Andiamo,
I know a guy who transports out of the south shore. He's run my old boat up north and a few of my friends. Let me know if you go that route. There is a town ramp in Bayport (Islip town) and another in Blue point (Brookhaven Town). It's a straight run up Nicolls road to 25A and right down into Port Jeff!! I would probably go that route unless you want to do the scenic thing then I vote for the east River route!!
You can stay inside from the Great South bay over to Shinnecock canal but, it is a little dicey just past the Moriches inlet on the east side. It is a well protected route with MANY no wake zones but, your anxiety level would definitely be low. Then you just have to deal with the locks and you're basically home free!

So trailering it to North Shore is out all the electronics would need to come off hard top. Plus it is a boat and what better way to get a feel of a new boat than a nice maiden voyage Thinking maybe going out fire island inlet and following coast to Shinnecock inlet then running the locks. This takes the skinny water GSB out of equation. Provided weather is good ocean route will be quicker without all the no wake zones. NYC would be really cool but looks to be a good 30 miles further. Can't wait for Friday fingers crossed!!

So ended up meeting the seller at Orient Point. Took ferry from New London and took delivery and ran her to Guilford. Boat ran awesome 1:20 minutes fighting the tide. The was a lot of huge logs and debris along the way so keep a good eye out. Boat is amazing I will post some pics heading to dock tomorrow to start digging into all the manuals.
