I have been researching diesel stabilizer and additives for winter.
I have several people recommending Lucas and some others as well. I have just topped off with 400 gallons and need to put some additives. I used "power diesel" last year and had issues this year with crap in my fuel. What do you guys suggest?

Thanks in advance

For the past 6yrs I've been using Frank's recomendation:

http://petroleumservicecompany.com/power-service-diesel-kleen.html
http://stanadyneadditives.com/lubricity-formula/
http://www.biobor.com/products/biobor-jf-fuel-additives/

At the beginning I've used all 3 at every fill. Then, when I was going through much fuel I dropped biobor.

When I used to winterize, I would use all 3 on my last fill, prior storage. Then, in spring I would add Power Service 911. Just to give it a bit extra "boost".

The method worked like a charm, so I never changed it.

Without much of details, I would guess that you were missing a dosage of biobor.

Steve, I have been using power service products for years when laying up construction equipment for the winter here in western New York and also use it in my boat.
Normally I add Diesel kleen as a maintenance routine all summer. For the winter layup I substitute Diesel Fuel Supplement in the white bottle for Diesel Kleen and also add a cocktail of Clear Diesel and biokleen. If your tanks are clean from the start, this should serve you well. You need to understand though that if there is growth in your tank, the Clear Diesel will break it free (it's a tank cleaner) and even though it breaks it down, it may need to be dealt with by changing filters a few times to get rid of it. I have read that adding 911 in the spring can assist in removal of sludge, but I have not had to try that yet. We use 911 on our rigs and trucks to de-ice and un-gel fuel that hasn't been treated correctly when the temps drop below zero.

As an edit, I see Alex types faster than me, or doesn't have to spend 20 minutes correcting the post.. but that must be where I read about the 911 :)

I would be running additive all year long.
Your motors are pre ultra low sulfur .
Theres no lubrication in todays fuel for older style injectors and pumps.
If you had issues with stuff in your fuel I would check your fuel tanks for contamination.
The power Diesel was doing its job in cleaning the tanks and emulsifying any water in the fuel.
I would recommend Power Diesel or Standyne additive all the time.
Lucas is too expensive and does the same as the others.
