I'm considering putting SeaDek down in my cockpit and swim platform. I'm just trying to decide between that and same OEM carpet I had.

I'd really appreciated it if those of you who have done this would post a picture of your installation and tell me what color combo you used AND what width you used for the planks. Apparently you can choice anything with 2" and 2.5" as being the most popular.

Also, what has been your experience with walking on it in the heat? Or any other comments would also be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I installed it on my swim platform this past weekend. I chose the faux teak (mocha over black). I wanted to start with the platform and make sure we like it before I do the cockpit. They had a pattern for my boat so that is what I went with due to the convenience. I didn't specify a width. I chose the pattern that retains the drainage passages on the swim platform so I have it is split into 4 pieces on the platform. We had a sunny and warm (not hot) weekend and temperature wasn't an issue. The pattern ended up fitting ok, not exactly how I would of traced it but that is what I get for the convenience. I will get a picture up soon as I can. Looks and feels great on the feet. Lots of compliments too. I will give it a few weeks before I consider bringing it all the way through the cockpit.

Thanks! I look forward to seeing the pictures.

So you installed it yourself? How complicated and nerve racking was that? I was quoted $400 to install both the cockpit and platform.

It wasn't too bad. Your area is quite a bit bigger than what I was working with so $400 to avoid the stress doesn't seem too bad. I can't get the stupid picture to upload. If you want, send me a pm with your email and I will email it to you.

I installed SeaDek on my 280 last summer. I also used the faux teak - mocha over black. SeaDek sent me the template material and I just traced the non-skid pattern on the swim platform. Need to make sure you leave the areas for water to drain off open. Wiped my swim platform off real good with acetone, let dry, spray with window cleaner and wipe off. Used razor blade to cut the backing cover material in the middle, be very careful you just want to cut the cover material not the SeaDek. Get a roll of 1 inch wide masking tape. Watch the video on the SeaDek web-site. Very good video to help you with the install.

The SeaDek does not get hot from the sun. Very nice cushion to walk on. Use Dawn dish washing liquid to clean and remove stains. We love the SeaDek, and we also have a lot of people comment on the appearance.

Thanks AV8, Do you happen to know the width of the planks on yours? Any pics?

Sorry I do not know the width. I just went to the SeaDek website and ordered the template kit, SeaDek will send you samples. I just ordered the faux teak. I do not recall a choice in the width of the planks.

I will take pictures this weekend and post them.

Thanks.

I was talking to one of SeaDek's biggest custom resellers and installers and he said they can program whatever width I want but typically it's 2.5" but some people prefer 2". He's going to send me a template drawing with both rendered.

Any luck getting pictures this weekend? I am considering redoing my cockpit and swim platform in the faux teak as well and wanted to see how yours came out. Thanks.

Had my SeaDek installed last Thursday. I FREAK'N LOVE IT! And so does every single person who's seen or walked on it.

We were anchored out all 4th of July weekend in the baking Texas sun and it stayed 100% comfortable to walk on. Never heated up. It's also nicely cushioned and comfortable on your feet while providing excellent grip wet or dry. We had a boat in BVI with NuTeak on the platform. Literally couldn't walk on it in the afternoons without footwear.

It's More expensive than even premium carpet but I think well worth it.

copb8tx, that looks great! I have been looking around at different deck coverings, and this has me pointing towards SeaDek. Right now I only have the non-skid, no carpet and I’m tired of the dirty look all the time.... I like that look, and if it holds up for you, it’ll work for me, I’m on the OK side of our pond!

One of the primary reason I decided to do the swim platform was I was sick of cleaning all the dirty footprints being tracked all over it from the dock. We were back and forth all four days this weekend and it never crossed my mind.

If you're around you're welcome to stop by and check it out. I'm on ZM dock at Highport Marina.

That looks awesome. We have already discussed upgrading so not sure I want to dump that kind of cash on a boat we are not going to keep. But at some point, a boat I own will have that stuff. Nice job and thanks for the picture.

The absolute best way to upgrade your cockpit carpet is to upgrade the cockpit! Congrats on the upgrade decision and enjoy the search.

Cop, That looks great! Any more pictures of complete cockpit? Thanks JC

Looks great! It's hard to believe it doesn't get hot in direct sunlight, the Nuteak I had in my old boat would get extremely hot.

I wouldn't have believed it either until I spent the weekend on my brother-in-law's Nautique G23 which comes with SeaDek as standard flooring. Spent two days on it and could lay bare backed on the swim platform completely comfortably. That's when I decided to pull the trigger.

I've been telling you guys about this stuff when it first came out and I installed it on my boat ;).
Bart your boat looks great!
