Hey guys, I have a 1999 33DA with a bad motor and was wondering if anyone has a recommendation for a company that sells long blocks. I pulled the heads and I'm not happy with the condition of the cylinder walls so I'm going to pull the engine and have a local shop look at it for a possible rebuild but I'm also leaning towards just getting a remanufactured long block. I found a company nearby in Patterson, NJ called Promar (I think) that does marine engines and they advertise gen VI big blocks for $3200. Don't know much about the company but I thought it would be nice to drive up there and drop off my core and drive home with a new engine. Just trying to find out if anyone has experience with any of the rebuilders out there so I know who I should beware of. Thanks, Mark

Mark,
I'd either rebuild yours or go with a new factory long block.
$3200 would be a reman.
New is $5200 standard H.P. or $5900 for the H.O. for G.M. marine factory long blocks.

I went with new because, I just don't trust a rebuilt unit...to many variables on the person turning the wrenches.
I know.....there are some good rebuild shops out there ... Jasper and First Mate come to mind .. still new is nice :)

Thanks, I appreciate the input. Your engines look better then new, nice job. I have the same reservations about the rebuilds but was hoping to hear if someone had a recommendation for a company that has a good track record. Usually when bad things happen people tend to tell the world but when all goes well you don't hear much so it's tough to get realistic feedback. My fear comes from the horror stories but don't really know what the odds are that I'll get a bad motor. I'm sure it happens with all of these companies and probably even get a few brand new engines that are bad. I agree....."new is nice".
