Need Mechanic FAST

Wow! That is odd... almost sounds like an air intake change. I also wonder why the beep alarm is going off.

The beeps are an alarm. I'm thinking lack of water flow on the raw water side. You are demanding more than the pump can provide at rest. I get the same thing. It's one of the reasons you have forward intake scoops on your pick ups.

As for the noise after 3000 RPM, it sounds exactly like my SS396 before I could get the secondaries to open (yes, I know you are running EFI's.) It's an air fuel thing and I don't know which is in error... Too much air or too much fuel.

Call M.C. Her husband Gerry is a wizard and literally a genius. I'm thinking that whatever it is that EFI's do to balance fuel and air, he either knows the answer off the top of his head or knows someone who does.

If the boat is not moving, is there a rev limiter that will prevent me going to a certain RPM? And the alarm going off?

Forward scoop intakes? Can you explain more? I assume as I'm moving, more raw water will be sucked in?

This is another problem I'm having with the port engine. Overheats, and also throws the beeping sound now, strange. Oil pressure maybe?

Again, all pointing to the raw water pump, overheating, squeaking belt, beeping alarm, and rev limit. Your boat is telling you something. Since in your signature it says you have the V-drives, your water pump might be difficult to get to, depends on how much room you have back there. It is mounted on the front of the engine, which is in the back of the boat. If you have the room to work, it is not difficult to pull. Chances are you will need to change the pump housing as well as the impeller, the inside gets scared up quickly, especially if you get in shallow water and kick up sand. Check your raw water strainer and the intake as well to make sure it is not blocked up. Not getting water to the pump can cause the same symptoms.

+1

Overheating is either a T'stat or an impeller problem and oftimes, both. The impellers should be changed every 3 years max, preferably every year or two. They are a RPITA to get to in the Merc engine. If you have not changed them, do so.

Depending on the housing, Coopers Marine showed me a repair kit that sleeved the impeller area that would get scored in a scenario that hack4alivin described. If you have to end up changing the entire housing, I would bag the Merc water pump and go to a crank mounted pump like is on a Volvo. Your impeller change becomes a 30 minute DIY process as opposed to a 2 hour knuckle busting sailor swearing PIA per engine.

Different style, same concept. Impeller change is removing the screws, removing the impeller, replacing the impeller and replacing the cover gasket and cover.
