NEED INPUT: ICE MAKER OR 2nd FRIDGE? What is better?

People who do not drink tank water are people who do not do proper tank maintenanc.

Not necessarily. We do not drink the tank water, well from the tap. I do have a whole boat filter and also a three stage water filter on the ice maker(s) for making ice however, so from that vantage point we drink tank water. But not from the faucet.

What are you calling proper tank maintenance?

I bleach the tank twice a year and I filter the in coming water with a simple rv filter….. I have been doing this for 7 years…… if I self diagnose, I’m fine

I didn't buy a yacht to live out of a cooler. Give me a cockpit fridge because I'm not going inside to get a beer every time and the only time we pack a cooler is to go the pool.

I haven't quite figured out how to fit this setup in my engine room yet. But when I do....:):)

LOL, yeah I bleach it at least once a year also. Still here ...

I shock mine in the spring when I commission and I add the fresh water additive when I fill. I think that's akin to light bleaching every time I fill up!

I sanitized the tank at spring commissioning using the recommended procedure, then used water from reliable, chlorinated utilities to fill the tank. After that, I drained and refilled the tank weekly so the water was always fresh. Tank water always smelled good and tasted like water from the taps in our home. The funny thing about this was we had boating friends on our boat who enjoyed the water, drinks and ice from our tank who swore they would never drink tank water. Not sure where they thought their beverages came from when enjoying our hospitality.

Well lets look at it from a payoff perspective. If the ice maker costs $1500, ice costs $3/5lb bag, you can buy 2500 lbs of ice for the same cost. If you buy 2 bags per boat visit and visit the boat 25 times, that's 10 years worth of ice. Maybe not a great ROI?
Lol….it’s not the money. It’s the convenience. Bought our 370 8 years ago. After pricing a new ice maker. Said once it goes out, we’re not replacing it. Well, it went out. Guess what? Bought a new one. Couldn’t imagine not having it.

Yeah, pretty much what I do. Just don't cycle the tank weekly. The tank get's cycled regularly because we're on the boat every weekend for the most part. The water never smells and great to shower with, but we still only drink bottled water. The ice maker is filtered tank water, which always taste great.

I ran out of bottled water this summer….. okay vodka straight probably isn’t the best plan…… so I did tank water all night…..with tank ice….. VW’s….. vodka waters….. I survived.
