Hello all. I am a new member located in central texas. I have been looking for a sea ray boat for a long time, and I thnk I found one, but I need a VERY honest opinion.

This is a 2006 Sea Ray 205 Sport. It has 1300 hours on the hull and was used as a rental boat. The exterior is missing graphics, but appears to be in otherwise good shape. Doesnt look like anyone hit anything, or beached the boat etc. The original motor died, and was replaced....replaced, not re-built, as well as the stern drive about 100 hours ago. Could use a new prop. Includes the custom snap on cover, and the bimini top with cd player. Snap in carpet is there. Missing some studs for the snaps, but those are cheap. Mechanically, it checks out to be in average to excellent condition. Exterior I would mark as average. Interior vinyl will need work. Vinyl is very faded and dirty. Looks like it has spent most of its life uncovered. For the most part the vinyl has no tears, but there are a few issues here and there.

If you were to buy this boat what would you say it is worth private party? Is it worth $12,500 including the tandem axle trailer?

Hull is missing decals because they were beat to death and the hull was compounded down enough to get rid of most of the dings and all of the decals. Just a guess.

What motor is in it now? 5.0? 4.3? I'm surprised to see these 2006 205's on boattrader from $19k to $26k. Assume they sell for $16k -22K. That rental has lived a hard life. Even though there aren't major components on it other than the engine package which has been replaced how beat up is the flooring, seat mounts, etc?

If I were considering that boat, I'd see what else could be had in the $10k range and then decide if that's a good deal based on what you know.

5.0. Nothing else really in the 10k range. Flooring could use a good cleaning, but its in good shape. Seat mounts are good. Only thing really deterring me is the vinyl, and the fact it is a rental boat. I had a mechanic check the motor and its good to go.

Why would you ever get something you know was abused? Just so you could have a good bargain? This is the buyers market, there are tons of very nice and well maintained boats out there for very good price. It only takes couple of times to be stuck with big repair bill to see how you loose your savings with the lemon.

Just like with docking, the last thing you want when buying a boat is to rush. So, take your time and find the ones that you're 100% comfortable with.

I don't know guys . . . I looked on boattrader lastnight for boats in the $13k range assuming he could get one for $10k and there wasn't a 20 footer out there. What are you seeing? Mostly 17-18. And to me that 2 feet is huge.

On a 200 bow rider what seriously could be wrong with it assuming the powertrain package is in good shape. I'm not saying it is or isn't, just assume it is based on his comments.

If the hull and floor is solid, no rot, no cracks, what else is there to worry about that could be a "major" fix. I'd be looking at hinges, windshield mounts and whether the bilge is staying dry but otherwise not sure else he'd be worried about. Now, would I ever buy a rental cruiser or larger boat with more systems, heck no.

Just trying to be opened minded here. At some point the price would make sense. On this one, I have no idea if its $5k or $12k.

If your budget is $12.5K, go with a 2000-2002 with MUCH lower hours from a non-rental place..... There are plenty of near perfect boats out there just a few years older and have 1/4 the hours on them.....

I would never buy a former rental car, or boat for that matter. Too many drunk, stupid people have been in them (I include myself in that phrase).

I know what I have done with rental cars and boats over the years, and it ain't pretty.....
