I have read a tread on this, but am still having problems removing my steering wheel and hope to find more help here.
I have loosened the nut and although there does not appear to be any rust, I have applied some liquid wrench and have let it sit a couple of days.
I am now using a spray lube, which again has been sitting for a day or so.
The nut is on to protect the shaft, and hitting it with a hammer, while pulling on the steering wheel has not produced any movement. It almost seems a though there is something else keeping the steering wheel in place.
Any suggestions you may have would be appreciated.

Yup, a two or three jaw puller should get it off. Get the puller on and tight. Then put a scrap 2X4 over the puller shaft and smack it good.

Or tie it off to the dock and put it in full forward and see if it will jerk off. :p No don't do that.

Have you tried tapping the shaft with a hammer? Actually, tap the bolt on the shaft as not to damage the shaft. Sometimes that’s just enough. You don’t need to bang on it, just a few good solid taps.

+1 on a puller. Will pop of without damaging anything…. NO NOT A BIGGER HAMMER

Thanks for all the replies. It looks like the puller is the way to go.

So glad all of you are here to help. I hope I can do the same in the future.
