All,

I need to know how to remove fuses from the EIM (I think that is what it is), that is behind the panel below the helm. It is the component that has the rows of fuses with the plastic water covers over the glass fuses. Do you just pull straight out on the fuse and plastic cover? Please help quick. I am chasing down the reason my stern light isn't working. Bulbs have been replaced and I am trying to check the fuse but I don't want to break anything.

To make matters worse, we are supposed to be on the hook overnight tonight (in 16 hours or so) for fireworks. Thanks in advance.

I am assuming you have the same EIMs most of us have. If that is the case, what you are calling the fuse is a reset-able breaker. If it is out, it is tripped, and you should be able to just press it in to reset without taking anything apart.

I would check the wiring diagrams for your boat to help with troubleshooting.

P.S.- What boat are you talking about? The 290 or the 210?

Well, hopefully that is true. The glass fuse is still in, so I assume it is not blown. I removed both bulbs and replaced. One of them left the bottom metal cap in the socket when I removed it. I got it out just fine, but still nothing. I was still hoping to be able to remove the glass fuse to verify it is intact.

I have been looking at the wiring diagrams and see that the stern light is in line (series) with the navigation lights, which work just fine. Also, there are no other issues with anything - including anything else going through that EIM.

This is on the 290DA.

I will look at the dealership and the local WM for another stern mast head light as the next step.

If anyone else has any suggestions, please let me know!

OK. My apologies. I will explain what I have learned for anyone else who may be new to this technology like me.

The EIM doesn't have glass type fuses under the waterproof cover as I thought. They are circuit breakers that plug into a circuit board below. The thing that will pop out is just an indicator/reset on each circuit breaker.

After checking continuity and voltages, it appears that my EIM is/is going bad. I have continuity from the arch harness/connector to (and through) the light. I am not getting voltage from the EIM to that connector at the STBD side base of the arch/spoiler. I can hear clicking on the EIM when I push the button for the light. Swapping the circuit breaker out had no success and pressing the light button with no circuit breaker installed will not light the light on the button itself. This indicates that the circuit breaker is good. So, either the EIM is going bad (likely the cause) or there is a break in one or both of the wires between the EIM and the plug at the base of the arch (not impossible, but I can't think of a reason for this as other wires in the loom are fine as indicated by their components working).

I bought a portable stern light to use for the night and later during an emergency if I should I need it again.

Now to call the warranty company on Tuesday.

You watching fireworks in Knoxville or at lenoir city park by the dam?

We were planning on it, but other isses made us get out too late. We wouldn't have arrived until about 9:00 or 9:30 and, with all of the trash in the river, I didn't want to be driving at dusk in it.

if you talking about light on aluminum pole then check pole socket first. spray some wd40 inside socket on the boat and on bottom of the light. use paper clip or something similar and stretch springs inside pole connector.

Nope. Anchor/stern light on top of the radar arch.

i assume that this light uses dual ended light bulbs. check with voltmeter if you have power going to light and try to bend connectors a little to create better connection. those light bulbs are known to go bad quickly. check if metal end of the light bulb is loose.

It does use those type bulbs and I replaced them both. I did verify no voltage from the EIM to the connector at the STBD side base of the arch. See above a few posts for the rest of the story. I am 99% sure that it is an EIM issue.

I am assuming this is the same Perko Masthead Light I have. If it is, the entire assembly that holds the bulbs in is a bad design (in my opinion) and eventually the springs wear out. I have seen several situations where someone had to use a small wad of foil to keep the bulb tight. If this has been done before, that, or corrosion could be causing your problems. To eliminate the fixture all together you should be able to remove the radar arch access cap and disconnect the fixture and try that. If it does not trip, you should probably replace the light.

I would recommend the Attwood LED Masthead light if you need to replace.

Looks like we replied at the same time.

If you isolate it to the EIM, these guys may be able to help you. They are the OEM for many (or possibly all) the EIMs Sea Ray has used.

Thanks. I checked the website and couldn't find anything that looked like my EIM. I'll have to get a model/part number the next time I am onboard so I can search more easily.

I cant get my Clarion stereo in my 2002 320 Dancer to work? It will motor the CD changer in and out, and you can hear the motor on the "radio/single CD player part, but it will not power up.

I too thought that the EIM board below the helm station helf fuses. I now know that it actually has breakers inside.

Can the 3 amp breaker in the EIM board go bad and can it be replaced?

If the motors are working to insert and eject cds and cartridges, then I would say that it is not a power issue. If it is, though, the breakers CAN be replaced. It is very easy to do. It would take less than two minutes to do. You just unscrew the 6 screws aound the EIM and lift off the top of it. Then you just remove the breaker and replace it. According to the dealership, the breakers aren't really known for going bad, but the EIMs are. To check the breaker, take another one and put it in place of the suspect one. If it works, you have found your issue. If not, that isn't your issue.

Did you get this fixed? I have the same problem. Obvious there is power to the unit, but I have no display either on the head unit or the control on the helm. I have yet to try a CD and see if it plays. I tried re setting the factory settings using the small hole in the head unit, but no go. I am doubtful the stereo is bad, the boat has almost no use and everything else works fine. Is there a breaker somewhere I am missing for stereo control, but not power?

I’m having similar issues when I turn on batteries my port keypad lights up then shuts off then blower turns on by itself then if I press trim tab aft acc lights up then fed acc turns blower on etc etc yesterday I pressed blower and heard pop in the fwd rim under helm then all switches where working shut off batteries and everything went crazy again no pop this time what do I need to replace keypad or eim or both? Thanks

My clarion head unit will only power on once I press the button on the stbd keypad that looks like a volume icon. Maybe yours works the same?

Yes that’s how mine is I believe it’s supposed to work like that
