Need help buying a new 340 DA

My larger point, though, is pick your price, write a meaningful deposit check, and walk away. Remove all emotion from the deal and be prepared to stick to your guns.

Hey Skip

I always thought that I had replied to this last post, but clearly not. Sorry! Here's the latest: I got a call from the dealer sales rep and he said that the incentives had been extended until September 30th. The last price they quoted me was $225K, which was $20K less than their previous "best". I'm thinking that the moment it is titled in my name, it will be a used '07 and worth no more than $185K, so I'm not sure I want to tear up $40K buying a new boat. However, I am prepared to depreciate some money - being realistic, that's part of the price of buying new, but there's also peace of mind. Knowing that MarineMax will be obliged to fix warranty issues, as well as service the boat in a timely manner, that's a good thing.

So, I want to get a "good" deal, but I don't want to get such a "killer" deal that the folks at MM say, "there goes that stingy bastard who ground us down on price - put him at the back of the line." So, I guess that's my position. Fairly conservative, but I know from my brother who sells Four Winns in Australia, his view is that everyone has to make a profit to maintain a healthy business. He is always willing to give a buyer an attractive price, but he can't stand it when people try to beat him down to the point where considers it ridiculous. His view is, "why would I go to all the effort, risk and financial outlay to bring in a boat, prepare it for sale, provide after-sales service, listen to gripes, etc, if I don't make any money on it?"

So, I'm thinking I might squeeze another $10K out of them and leave it at that...
