Need good surveyor in Pine Beach NJ

Found a boat, but she's in NJ. My surveyors don't go that far. Any recommendations? Twin 8.1S HOs on a 40 fly bridge.

I'd call Marine Max in Brick, they'll have a recommendation for you. I spent 25 years on the Barnegat Bay near Toms River and Pine Beach. A good recommendation would be Capt. Rob Cozen, he did a survey for me a few years ago and did a good job. I don't know if he's in the area any longer, but Marine Max would definitely have the right person for you.

Call John Spencer, he's in Toms River and one of the best in the business. 732-255-4700. He did my last boat, and I spent 9 hours with him learning everything about it. Very knowledgeable and very thorough. I'm close by if you need anything further.

I ended up going with John Spencer. Needless to say, I'm not real happy with his work.

For one, I was trying really hard to get my wife and kids on the boat for a quick run so she could sign off on it too. He threatened multiple times that if he doesn't get it done in one day, that I'd have to pay extra for him to return the following day. And the boat wasn't that big...should have easily been able to finish it in a day - which we did (by 16:00).

Second, he seemed to miss obvious things. Even my wife commented, "He said the compass was in good condition? It was upside down! Even I could see that." Mentioned the flares were out of date, but there were none to be found on the boat. Mentioned that the water heater didn't work, but it nearly burnt my brokers hand when he tested it. :/

He did seem extremely knowledgeable and was a very nice guy, but I won't be recommending him for anyone else.

Sorry to hear about your experience. He spent 9 hours on my 31 so I'm guessing maybe your boat might have taken longer. Either way, I hope he is able to help with your decision.
