Need boat lift; brand info

Kind of late to the show on this thread but thought I would add my 2 cents. A good friend of ours has the strap lift and uses it on his ~25ft bayliner. When I was there about 12 years ago he was bringing the boat out of the water after a fishing trip and right when he stopped the strap broke. The front end of that bayliner went smashing into the dock breaking off the tip of the boat. Needless to say I learned a few new colourful words that day.

So, with that being my only experience......I would stay away from straps.

I would wonder how old the straps were because I've seen the same thing happen with a lift that used I-BEAMS. If the straps were old and warn out it will break, and like the lift I saw the I-BEAMS were old and rusted bout but the same thing happened.

Isn't that one of the reasons you use aluminum beams? But the real issue for a lift would be the CABLES. . . which obviously have to be inspected regularly.

Good points, and being in saltwater, I need them to be of some sort of anti-corrosive material.

Yea, its going definately going to cost more $$$, but at least it will be useable!!

Galvanized hardware is fine for a lift. It's not going to be in the water all the time and I-beams just don't catastrophically fail on a lift without showing signs. My lifts are 9 years old and have no rust on them or any of the components. You do have to keep an eye on the stainless cables but it's not like these things are stressed like on an aircraft carrier.
