I have looked everywhere and can't find anyone making an extended bimini or Campertop for the 340. CO2 issues preclude Great Lakes from building it. Anyone got any ideas, or is it a start from scratch custom made product.

CO2? Why the hell is Great Lakes worried about CO2? No one is going to get hurt with CO2. I don't think there has ever been a boating death because of CO2.

Best route is to go custom with your local canvas shop. Consider the hardware that you will need to install and have in place, and also a place to store the additional side panels.

I'm not against camper tops, but do recommend thinking twice about it on this size boat.

I don't know how the radar arch is on this boat, but on a previous boat I had (Tiara 3300), what I did was build a vertical curtain (drop down) from the top of the arch. This allowed me to enclosed the area helm area at least. And no need to have additional pipes aft.

we have a custom camper and love it!

We bought some extra CO detectors, never see alarms.

Same.

Search my name for details and pictures. Look in the "Official 320 Thread" for 20 points to consider when having it made.

I, too, have a 2006 340.

As Hampton stated, definitely read his posts and the corresponding posts regarding this subject.

You have to go custom on our boat. Last Friday, I initiated the services of a custom canvas guy who is very well-respected on our lake. I am having a "cantilever" (spelling?) top created and installed. The top uses aluminum bracing that extends from the radar arch and under the fabric that allows you to have open sides and back (when panels are not in place). This way you do not have to have bimini-type poles extruding from the back gunwales like a lot of boats have (including my old 280).

Another option for you might be Taylormade's "FastBack" top. If you are relatively
handy, it's something you can install yourself. There are a number of threads on CSR if you want to look around. I have a FastBack on my 320 and like it.

It's is unsettling to me that SR did not offer a camper option on these boats. It makes no sense to me at all.

Small world. If you are "Rowe Boat", I was on your dock today looking at canvas options for a 380 that I have in my gunsights. Tom Rule (I think?) was recommended by a friend at Lanier. I spoke with Tom and he recommended the cantilever system. I looked at yours (only from the dock...didn't trespass!) and several others. I included a couple of images for people to know what we are talking about...basically, most camper enclosures have supports coming from the gunwhales on the very aft of the boat as the primary support. In this system, a stronger roof is made and supported by a brace coming from the radar arch, and the panels hang off it. The disadvantage seems to be a slightly smaller footprint, but it is a very clean look. It struck me that it wouldn't carry a lot of weight, but I guess you can't do pull ups on the traditional rear bar either.

Thanks for being a good example! (the guy also mentioned positively another CSR alum...Carter Chapman...although I don't think Carter had this particular work done).
