Need advice re buying a 2002 220 br

I am new to boating and want to spend under 20k for an used Sea Ray. I would like the boat to be between 21-24'.

I found a 2002 22 BR that has 68 hrs on it and the maintenence guy said it is in fantastic shape and the only repair he ever did was to replace a switch. I of course will look at it and get it checked before I buy the boat.

So here are my questions that I need help with before I decide to buy it:
-Should I wait and get a later year Sea Ray for under $20,000? I do not want a weekender just a fun day boat.

-Have the 2002s had any problems?

-Is it a mistake for a new boater to buy a 2002?

-The boat is listed at 18k and the NADA guide says 17k if it is in good shape and 14k if it is in ok shape. Should I offer 12k and end up around 14k? I know I have an advantage in this horrible market so I dont want to be naive and put in a bid for 14k if I can get the boat for less.

Thanks.

you don't say anything about the motor size or other amenities. NADA is not always accurate for boats. A lot depends on your area as well.

I have the 2003 220 and I love it. I don't think it is too much boat for a newbie but you better have a decent tow vehicle. You're probably talking 6500lbs loaded.

Depending on what it has, a 2002 220BR Sea Ray with 68 hrs can easily be worth the asking price of $20k.

I paid nearly that 2 years ago for a 1999 210 BR with 180 hrs (my first boat as well).

Be careful using NADA. You must be sure to pick all the options and it may not include the trailer.

Let us know what it has...

Good Luck!

I highly reccommend a used boat for you..
You will learn alot and you will make mistakes,, We all have....
Some mistakes will be minor while some might not be, but it is better to make them on a used boat. If you nick the gelcoat on a used boat,, Its not near as bad than when you do it on a new one. Price depends on area, salt vs fresh, and engine size among other things.. In texas that boat will still be worth about 18-20K,, In FL it wouldnt be worth 15K....

Just my two cents...
Good Luck
