My boat, which I've had for three seasons (an '03 260da), came with a GPS/Fishfinder, but a battery failure last year fried it.

I need a new one, and I was hoping I could get some direction from you experts before I go shopping... Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Call Jim at BOE- site proprietor. He is very knowledgeable and has some of the best prices around!

I have a Garmin 541S which I like.

First off -- don't go to West Marine unless you just want to check them out. They are expensive. By all means, find a model you like at WM and then go online to purchase your chosen unit.

I have the Garmin 545s and have no regrets on my purchase.

Very true -- play with them at WM but one online or better yet, as Big Island Lifer mentioned, buy it from Jim at BOE Marine -- http://www.boemarine.com/

I really like my Lowrance HDS7. I can't wait to install the Structure Scan.

I'm a huge fan of Garmin too. I have the 545s and it's compact enough for the limited real estate on the dash and has enough intuitive functionality to work very well. You're not hunched over the thing all the time trying to figure out what you want to do or see. The newer replacement for this model is the 546s. This is when I first installed it. There is a clamshell beneath the helm covering the wire entry now.

Go with a Garmin 4xx/5xx. I have a 535s. Love it.
