Yeah, so this was 2004, but I was desperate to find something boating related to read since Gary's summer trip blog is a distant memory.

The radio blogs were captured during the Trawler Transatlantic in 2004 when 18 trawlers sailed from Ft. Lauderdale to the Azores, then to Gibralter.

Click on the link below and save it as a fav. There's bit much to read in one sitting. It's a quite interesting journey especially the Bermuda to Azores leg. Not many mechanical problems but those that were done were done at sea. Imagine having your prop fouled by a fishing net 1000 miles across the Atlantic or losing all electricals in 10 foot seas.

Anyway...I just thought I'd share in case there were others like me out there- desperate for some boating stories

So if I wrote a book, you would buy it?

I bet Wingless wouldn't have any problems with his boat if he had been in charge....

Thanks, I just blew off 1 1/2 hours of work and watched the video.

I just watched that documentary and it was so F'n awesome - sure it was corny in parts, like when the older couple decided they were going to rap over the VHF...

Still, it really made me wish I was with them - it looked so cool jumping into the ocean in the middle of the Atlantic. I also loved the fish they caught! I'd do about anything for a 45lb Dorado these days...

Happy viewing! I just hope I can get to sleep now that I'm all pumped up - I'm seriously considering an evening cruise just to quell the boating bug that's bit me after that damned video!

Even in the radio blogs there was some corniness going on. On one of the first legs when they reached Bermuda, the writer mentioned he was going to celebrate with an extra dollop of whip cream on his chocolate mousse. I'm like, WTF!? If I made it to Bermuda from Florida, I'm pulling the Stoli's out of the freezer for a real celebration.

You gotta love the idea of cruising that far. Scary and exciting all at the same time. It has to feel really good when you make it all the way...

So they all made it to the Mediterranean, now what? The lead boat is staying there to be sold, what did the others do?

Not sure about this group, but I have heard of other groups that do the same kind of trip when they are done they will ship there boats back to the US via large cargo ships.

I was wondering the same damned thing! Talk about a one-way ticket...

Not sure if this applies to this entire group, but I imagine some of these people stayed in the Med for extended cruising, leaving their boats there and flyhing back and forth. If you notice, PAE had a small support network on the initial trip. I'm sure these guys didn't hang around and wait for people to decide when they wanted to journey back. It would be pretty foolish, IMO to not stay there for some crusing in the Med. I mean go there and turn around and come back? Not me.

Heck, I don't think I would EVER bring my boat back.
