Thinking about retiring and if I were and wanted to move to Florida which location or other would you suggest. Looking for boating, golf and warm weather.

I can't speak about naples, but I have been to St Augustine, it is a great "OLD" town with lots of history and cool things to do. I'm not sure I would want to live there though. if you do decide on living there, I would definitely live outside the downtown area, and just take the boat up to downtown area... it has very little parking, and no real houses to live in. but if you take the boat up to the downtown area, you can walk around for hours and still not see all the sites... Great People, even better food. just my opinion... hope that helps...

My vote would be Naples...... I've had a place there for 10 years and love it....For me the pros over St. Augustine are:
1. Weather- Naples can be easily 10-15 degrees warmer than northern Florida. That's a big one for me.....
2. I've been to a lot of places in Florida and Naples is one of the most manicured and clean places in Florida.......

But I don't think you should just narrow it down to the two.... Take some time and visit a bunch of places and see what feels right.....there are many other great places to live in Fla.

Just my 2 cents......

I'll put a little plug in for Punta Gorda Isles. I bought my house there last year and am currently typing this post sitting on my lanai. Just got back from a boat ride to the harbor to watch the sunset. Very nice little downtown area and lots of waterfront parks and bike trails. Been wearing nothing but shorts and tee shirts since I got here. Not looking forward to going back to Jersey for my normal work life and the fricken cold weather. Mark

Mark, I have some friends that have moved to Punta Gorda, and I would also put a plug in for that one! great place!

Naples isn't as nice as some would claim it is. Crime is a big concern there. While areas are manicured (not the best in Florida) there are equally seedy areas. St. Augustine can be cold and old. I would suggest that either side of Florida is ok if you are a coastie but if you enjoy actually going somewhere then stay on the east coast. Over there I would consider the keyes. Amazing scenery and great boating.

If you can...move to Sanibel. Pricey, but you will find total peace, and great fishing.

The West coast is somewhat quieter than the East and generally has less crime but all towns have "those areas" just some more than most. We have an influx here of folk from the East coast moving to get away from it. Below Sarasota and above the Naples Sanibel area are generally cheaper for property. Take a look at hurricane history too before you decide on anywhere......some places are much more susceptible than others and if you get hit with one, although insured, believe me it won't be a good experience. Good luck!
