name and homeport graphic$

I called one of the providers recommended elsewhere on this forum the other night, and for a simple name and homeport I was quoted a price between $275 and $350. That seemed a little steep to me.

Am I right in my gut, or is this the reality today? I'd be interested to hear what others have laid out......

Cheers,

Bill

I have used speedysigns.com a couple of times and like them. Depending on your graphics choice you might save a few dollars.

Does this price include the installation? What is it being cut or printed on? Is it metalic gold or a full color graphic? As someone in the sign & graphics business for 16 years, there are a lot of factors that make up the cost..Please let me know so I have a better idea.
Thanks,
Barry

SomeSailor on "IBoatNW" did mine and many others. He does really nice work and has the proper cutters to do anything from dash panels to names in any font...

My previous boat, I had West Marine do it and it was OK but somewhat limited in choices...

My current boat name is 22kt engine turned gold with blue background and light gray shadow...

Try this one. You can play around with the font, see the lettering, and get an instant price.

I tried most of the online simulators and like this one the best. I don't know what the quality will be like, but my lettering comes out to about $150, so if it lasts a few years, it would be worth it compared to the $400 quote I got from the local guy who doesn't return phone calls.

Unless you're doing something extravagant, then yes Bill, I would say that's steep. I got 15 letters and a graphic INSTALLED for about $150.

Can't speak to your specific quote, but I did get "schooled" on my last transom art job. It was a part of the negotiation along with a few other things that I added at the last minute to seal the deal. Everything looked great when I picked the boat up. A year later, things started to peel a bit so the selling marina redid it. A year later, same thing. So....I had my storage marina look at it and they told me that inside decals were used not all weather. You get what you pay for. New stuff still looks good after 2 years and my old boat still looked new after 11 years, but then I actually wrote checks for that work. Make sure you get a heavy duty product that will hold up. I've seen a lot of transoms with peeling art. Now I know why.

I'm going with Mike, who did Doug's sign.
PM Doug or myself for more accurate contact info. '

Best of Luck.,

See if the price changes if you use "gold metallic" instead of "gold leaf".

I used decalzone.com and have been very happy with their work. It is very reasonable.

Everyone is failing to mention one important factor, How many years is the vinyl rated for? You can have a 3 year rated, and that is real garbage, or you can have a 9 year or 11 year, which won't usually last as long as the are rated for, but is still worth getting. The cost of good material can cost 3 or 4 times the cheap stuff. Make sure the material is Avery or a 3m product, they last a long time from my experience.

Yeah, I'm sure it would be but after 8 years of dreaming and one very large lump in my throat as my "Public Servant A^&*" buys the boat I am sorely undeseving of.......... Why Skimp now???

Hmmm, I guess I don't get it then... Your buying decals made from 23k gold leaf. I would think the price you were quoted then is pretty close to the going price. Plus, from what I've seen posted none of them were made from 23k gold, which most likely is the reason for the large price difference in what you were quoted and the price others have paid.

So don't skimp now, pay the price and show that public servant that you are deserving...

Didn't mean anything by it... Guess I should have put a smiley face behind it.

My mind isn't that deep...

I hope this isn't against forum rules, as I don't usually post "ads" in forums. But I noticed through my website analytics that I was getting a bunch of hits from this site.

When I saw this thread, I wanted to thank you guys for mentioning my business, CustomBoatNames, by offering a 20% coupon for our newest boat name business - BoatNameGear.com (embroidered shirts, hats, boat mats, etc)

Coupon code for you guys is, of course: searay

Unfortunately, the coupon only works at www.boatnamegear.com and not at www.customboatnames.com because of the way my tech guys set it up (hopefully I'll fix that in the near future)

Thanks again, and sorry if this offends anyone.

I think you boat may be severly underpowered. :smt043 Nice graphic however.

Try www.vinylgraphix.com. I just had Chuck mock up a few ideas. You tell him your boat year and model and you get your ideas back for review layed out on a template of your transom.
