Have looked through the guide books, read all the websites - now looking for first-hand knowledge. Assuming availability is not an issue when I'm traveling, what is the top marina in Mystic, preferably with floating docks and reasonably close to everything? Brewer's looks like the prime candidate based on my research, but please - sound off! Thanks.

(Gary - where did you end up booking in Mystic?)

We always stay at Brewer, partly because we get "free" dockage. (Our home marina is part of the Brewer chain so we get 6 nights at other locations each season.) The marina is a long way away from town by road, but quite convenient by water. There is a public dinghy dock right in the center of town and another one within the Seaport.

All that said: if you have kids, try to stay directly at Mystic Seaport. They will never forget the experience.

Our Mystic stop was in the middle of the week so I have not made reservations.... should I?

Have the silk screen guy put two names on your jet ski cover....Four Suns on one side and Sea Gull on the other.....

At Brewer there are only a handful of transient slips so they rely heavily on seasonal customers being away to accomodate visitors. As a result, if you call now they may not have space. If you call on the day of arrival they will.

That's the same way Mears in Annapolis works... you are better off calling the day before than the month before.

Thanks Sea Gull. If I read the map correctly, it's about a mile (by road) from Brewer's to town and a bit longer to the museum. No kids so being in the thick of it is not crucial and I enjoy walking, but more than a mile might be too much work for the people I'm traveling with. Any other suggestions closer to town with floating docks?

I highly recommend the Mystic Seaport. It is close to everything via foot or dinghy. The best part is you have 24/7 access to the museum grounds and many of the buildings have unlimited access. If you become a member at a certain level, you get a discount on the slip rental and the second night free. Reservations are necessary. If you have kids, this is the palce to be. Just be sure to schedule your trip up the river properly as the draw bridge only opens on a set schedule. You can find more information at

I take my family there every year and we love it.
