Hi,

Anyone know what green wire "743" is on a 1998 270 Sundancer?? - it has a ring connector on the end and has come loose from somewhere near the fuel filler or fresh water tank. The other end goes into the rest of the wiring loom...

I've some wiring diagrams for the boat but can't find this one on any of them.

Many thanks for any info!

Nigel.

Nigel,

I just had to look into the bildge at all of the wiring and thought man I need a wiring diagram. I googled it and found all of the wiring on the Searay website in the owners manual for my 1998 270. Also, I found the parts guy at my local Marine Max to be extremely helpful in tracking down mystery parts and repair tips. Good luck and post some pics of your rig if you can!

What color is the wire that can sometimes give you an idea. The ABYC has color codes for different common systems on a boat. Purple is ignition Pink is fuel etc.

Hi,

Its green.. I have the wiring diagrams downloaded from the Sea Ray site but can't find this one on any of them..

One thing I think it may be is a ground for the filler - but its plastic on my boat. Anyone know anything about grounding tanks/fillers and the static implications??

Cheers for now - and a Happy New Year to everyone!!

Nigel.

Is the wire long? There is normaly a green wire that will hook up to the main fuel filling hose between the fuel tank and the fuel filler neck assembly, It hooks up to one of the bolts that holds the fuel filler neck to the side of the boat.
If it is this wire, It's used for preventing static electricity while filling up the boat with fuel.

Here is a list of standard Boat Wiring color Codes that may help someone someday. Good luck with it, I hope this helps you out.

WOW! Thanks for the list. I copied that to my reference library just in case!

Start off by holding the loop end of the wire and moving it around in all directions. Try to locate anything with mounting screws, electrical equipment, or motorized devices that should be grounded, but aren't. I'm not sure how long that wire is, but there can only be so many devices within the radius of its reach. Either something that was grounded is not grounded any more, or that is a ground wire for something that your boat never had. Does the loop have scuff makrs on it? If it was used before, you should see some marks or shiny spots on the loop. If everything within its reach is grounded, I wouldn't worry about it.

Shoot Sea Ray Cust Service an email. You might get luck and get a reply.

Great stuff Boat Tech - Many thanks for that...

My fuel hose has a sharp kink in it above the water tank and I also have a suspicion the fuel filler seal is leaking rain in so I'll take the lot apart next week and re-build/seal/connect it... The ring connector has marks on it so was connected somewhere at some point - and is about the right length to reach up to the filler.

Cheers,

Nigel.
