I'm only looking at 12v DC TVs, 19 or 20". I would appreciate all feedback.
Important to me: 12V - Good Contrast/Brightness - Audio out (FM would be great) - Excellent viewing angles - VESA compatible mount - Good speakers (5w or better) - Marine compatible, maybe - If not Marine, then must have DVD. Right now, if I get a Marine TV, it would be the Jensen. If I didn't, it would be the Audiovox, if the contrast is good (can't find out).

Audiovox: Looks decent - Model 1907 (or 1906?) - VESA mount - 8 Watt spkers - 3 memory card type comapatible (1906) - Any kind of disc comp. - CONTRAST? BRIGHTNESS? I called them - no answers.

Jensen: I believe this to be the best one, but no built-in DVD. Imagine that. Coated circuitry for anti-corrosion and marine applications (Great for cockpit). Interesting that the 1908 model Jensen and 1907 model Audiovox are so similar.

Supersonic: Was my front runner, but no name recognition (quality?) Not specifically for marine use (cabin ok with A/C).

MR Marine: Too expensive, poor contrast, but intended for marine application. Last choice.

Skyworth: No brand recognition - DVD included - VESA mount compatible - Average contrast.

Mounting Bracket of choice:

Hope I saved someone time. Would appreciate anyone's knowledge about these or others.

Slim pickins...
FWIW, I have the 26" version of the Audiovox. It's an OK TV. For Sports and cartoons, it is fine. I wouldn't try to watch anything dark on it. Are you sure it is 12v?

Don't expect good audio from any of them. Picture quality is acceptable, but if you limit yourself to DC, you get what you pay for.

Yep. I think the Adiovox is out. They don't publish the screen specifications and tech support can't tell me what they are. There's one complaint on line about DVD audio output, and no other comments. You don't like the picture. I'm convinced. In a 19 or 20" LCD TV, it's not hard to get a great pic. If it's not near perfect, it's a pretty cheap device.

I'm leaning heavily toward the Jensen again.

Interesting comment. All LCD screens are DC. In order to plug them into AC, they have to invert the power. My car and boat stereos are DC. They rock. Also, if I get what I pay for, that's great. They cost about 50% more than their AC counterparts (probably due to lower production levels).

The Audiovox 1906 is no longer available. Model 1907 (FPE1907DV to be exact) is available for around the $350ish mark. It does run on 12 volts. Seems like a decent performer.

I saw that as well - no longer has the memory card reader. Also, the inputs are on the back. I think they were on the side on the 1906, but I'm not positive. One way or the other, it has changed, so you can't assume that the 1907 has the same screen and/or speakers (1906 speakers were 8 watt, which is good).

I should have said, you can get a better picture on many AC only 19" LCD's than you can on this Audiovox AC/DC TV. But needing DC operation, it will servre it's purpose.

Something about a TV sold at Walgreens makes me skeptical, but who knows, it may last for years of carefree viewing enjoyment, I hope it does.

I didn't say I did not like it. For the money, it is not a bad TV. I have not viewed it outside, but it is biased towards a brighter picture and may excel in that application. I don't think you would be able to make much out of a Batman movie on any LCD in the cockpit of your boat.

Thanks Teekster. I understand now. I don't think we'll be watching dark, sinister shows during daylight - probably sports or comedys. Still, if no one in the entire chain from design to production to sales to service can tell me the screen's specs, I ain't buyin'.

Further thought on the comment "you get what you pay for." It may very well apply in this case, not due to DC power, but rather due to being a combo unit. It's true, these combo units are never ever (99.9%) as good as the individual units, and you do save money over buying 2 units, but I don't think it's worth it in my particular case. Jensen - I'm back to that.

I guess it's really a matter of what a person wants. A decent TV that you can watch with an easy DVD player, or a very high quality set made for the marine environment that requires external input for movies. I can't stand putting this much work into something and then being dis-satisfied with the picture or audio - Jensen.

Worst case scenario... purchase the Audiovox because it has the integrated DVD and determine if it's right for you. If not, return it and purchase the Jensen.

Not a bad idea. I'd have to wire in the audio out to test it, but I could make it compatible with either set to avoid doing it twice.

Hi, I am looking for the Same size / type TV thanks for the Info. Have you choosen any and what do you think? Thanks you. John G

Avoid the TV's with integrated DVD. If the player fails, it will cost more than the TV
to replace. And, they WILL fail before the panel does.

Have you considered a 120v TV (more options) and run it off an inverter? I can't imagine a small TV using too much juice and having an inverter for running other items is great.

Thanks. Looking into all options. Don't see using the DVD much but being built in is nice and with-out the seprate inverter keeps things compact for a smaller Boat. John G.

Thanks for the great info here. We have been looking at 19 inch TVs for a while. We had trouble finding anything DC. These look like great options. They are the same price as other TVs and you don't have to buy an inverter. Let us know how it works once you get it.

Hi, I have decided on the Sharp 19 In. LCD HDTV with DVD Player Model LC-19DV24U $369 from PC Richards. The Power consumption is 60Watts So I am picking up a Inverter 150W / 300W Peak. Needed the DVD on the left side due to installation. John G.
