great deal of horrible oxidation/fading. After reviewing prior posts, there is much discussion, but it refers you to the old site that says is now moved to this one. Here are my questions to those of you who perhaps have dealt with this issue before.

1. YOUR preference of brand of rubbing compound and type.
2. Sandpaper grit and # of steps of wet-sanding.
3. YOUR preference of finishing material, wax etc.
4. Is repainting the entire boat an unreasonable possibility, I have no knowledge of boat painting, but obviously I would consider it if the finish is ruined.

I am also interested to hear your stories of success before and after. The boat is white with green upper striping, any help is appreciated.

Lastly.... the vaseline method was interesting... is it still working?

Thank You

I used soft scrubb on an 84 grady I owned and it cleaned up the chaulky stuff pretty good, then i started using this compound wax mixure called FLEET WAX its kind of expensive but in my opinion worth it it brought back the shine and kept it on ask your local marine store about it

3M Finesse-It, a foam pad, and a rotary polisher is great, but you must be very, very careful not to damage the gelcoat. You can get good results, a bit more slowly by using a random orbit polisher, such as the Porter Cable 7424, instead of the rotary tool. The Porter Cable has a number of variations, but is a favorite with many on this site. A wool pad is more aggressive than a foam pad. You can use a wool pad the orbital and get results nearly as easily as with the aforementioned rotary. I would not recommend wool pads on the rotary. Wool is too abrasive and you're too likely to burn the gelcoat with that combination.

After polishing, wax with a good quality wax. I prefer Meguires, but you'll get a wide variety of opinions. I've also had pretty good success with 3M waxes. The only one I though was awful was Collinite. Yuck!

Best regards,
Frank
