Re: My really good friends had a heart attacks !!

You got it Wayne!

I am 44 and was in pretty good shape up until I began slacking off about 8 years ago. I hate not being in shape and feeling like crap all the time. I have re-committed myself to getting back into shape starting this fall (boating comes first...). I have been a member at a fitness club for 15 years and it's free as long as I show up 12x/mo. so I have no excuse.

Best of luck to you and everyone you mentioned.

SWW, You're a young guy. Take care of yourself before its to late !!. :smt021
And Thanks. :smt001

Prayers sent....

It's hard to hear stories like this when it's so preventable. Yes, genetics play a part but it also diet, diet, diet. Exercise is great but it's useless if you're filling your arteries with bacon, cheeseburgers, fries, doritos, twinkies, etc. This country needs to cut out the crap and eat healthy.

Sorry to hear about this, I believe it is a malady of our society. I lost a step daughter when she was 46, and my wife when she she was 67. She did not draw Social Security benefits for one full year, before her passing, and at that it was less then $800.00 a month.

Here I am 60 and trying to meet a single woman and they all think nothing can happen to them. Well I was talking to my wife one moment while getting ready for work, went and brushed my teeth, came back and she was gone. My wife was a small woman. About the same as for my step daughter, she got up, went and got a soda, and then went to bed. That was it.

I for my part try to tell others to live for the day.

Wayne sorry to hear about both of your friends. Prayers to the families & friends.

I'm 53. I've smoked since I was in the 3rd grade and eat what I want when I want.....until 6 mos ago. That's when I got my annual physical. Over weight. Cholesterol off the charts.

Not sure why it took so long for the light to go off in my head but thankfully it did. Oatmeal with 1% nuture milk every morning. No more processed or fatty meats. No butter or margarine. No sweets. Went from four 16oz cups of coffee a day to one with fat free half & half. Stopped smoking June 1st with the help of Chantix.

Took a couple weeks to adjust to all the "new" but man I tell you I feel great!

Now I wonder how we can get the light to go off for the rest of the country.....:smt009

That sucks Wayne, I hope your buddy comes out of it alright. Also condolences to your other friend's family...

Hey guys.............take it from someone that is older than all of you and had heart problems as well when I was in my 50s.

Get a good physical complete with extensive blood tests. If heart disease runs in the family or if you are at risk because of smoking, weight, cholesterol, high blood pressure, etc. go see a Cardiologist and get a stress test and a heart scan.

I have had more health problems than I care to admit to and I had to learn the hard way what I could do about some of them.

wow, lessons learned for the young guy. I'm an age group triathlete so I like to think I'm pretty damn healthy. Although, my wife may beat me, threatening my health if I continue to train as I do.

Seriously, buy a bike and ride - its great cardio and easy on the knees. There are plenty of bike groups out there to join if one so desires. Be careful not to get hit by a car though - keep the ipod at home

Wayne, Sorry to hear about your friends. We will pray for them and their families. I'll say one for you, it's tough to see loved ones and friend hurting.

Ok I just got off the phone with the hospital and Ken with need 2 more Stents [sp] put in .
They said he has 80% blockage in his artery's. :wow:

What the h*ll is a Stents ??..
I looked on the internet and couldn't find nothing about these Stents. :smt024. ??

Thanks again Guys.

Wayne

Prayers to all!!!

I lost a frient to a heart attack at 38, so its never too soon to take care of yourself. Also watch the blood sugar levels.

My uncle had one at 30... and he was wicked in shape - farmer - but he smoked. Left behind 4 little kids and a wife.

I need to take better care of myself, I was doing good, till I started having rotator cuff issues, that's put limits on what exercising I can do - apparently the mri says I have calcium deposits off a bone that are wearing/cutting the tissue below it. (?) Might need surgery to remove the deposits.

Some of this is genes. A week ago I lost my best friend at age 50 to a heart attack, who did not take care of himself. Also a friend who was a health "nut" biking, running, eating well etc. at age 58. Go figure. (also go boating and enjoy life while you can) Sorrey for your losses everyone. Ric

Prayers to your friends Wayne.

You change what you can (habits and behaviors) and don't worry about what you can't (genetics and accidents).
