So I took a week off work, grabbed the puppy, wife and kids and packed up the boat...

We left the waters of Lake St Clair, through the Detroit River and on to Maumee Bay Resort on the western edge of Lake Erie.

Erie was GLASS on the way over, we all really enjoyed the cruise.

We stayed for 4 days, swam, played, grilled a lot and had a great time!

The weather was great, but a sharp easterly wind was bugging us all week. We had a two day window to pick the right day to get home, and yesterday LOOKED to be the best as the forecast called for 1 to 3's all day.

We left early at the best part of the day, and found the 1's , 3's, 5's and I think some 7's and 8's!!!

Our Erie run took 3x as long as it did on the way down, for the most part we made about 8 knots and we were stuffing the bow. The frequency of the waves made it very interesting to say the least.

My daughter (4) complained that she didn't feel good. Then the dog puked, then my son puked, then my wife puked... Thankfully everyone toughed it out.

The boat performed beautifully, although she wasn't the most dry ride around.

My wife told me to seriously start looking for a 34!

34 isn't going to do it. Have you thought about larger? Think much larger.

He's right. Even in a 340, the frequency of those waves will drive you crazy.

That is one way to get the wife on board for a new larger boat.

It might be a good excuse to use for her.... but 7 to 8 footers.... don't think the 340 would be the answer.

Any an excuse that gets you the bigger boat works for me:smt038

I can't wait to show her this thread... Unfortunately, the tuition bill for my 4 and 7 yr old will remind me that a 340 is as good as its gonna get for the next couple years!

And while I agree that the 340 won't make much difference in big water, the boat felt a little cramped to live in for the week, and the 340 will help there!

Great story and it reminds me of how we ended up with the 420.

One side note, as the kids get bigger the boat shrinks disproportionately to their size.

.......keep root beer aboard for the times. "I don't feel so good". It helps calm the upset stomach.

I'm jealouos you're going to buy a 340, but Frank's 410.....sure looks good.

The bad new is, even a 50 footer is punished in Lake Erie 8 footers. But I agree that the 340 is a great boat. In fact, I know of a few examples available in the area and would be happy to help search them out.

I'm glad you made it though. I was at MBR 2 weeks ago and a had a good time. I'm not sure I could spend 4 days there though, especially since I don't golf.

Where did you swim? Pool? Pond? I don't find the beach very appealing: more like crushed gravel than sand.

BUY NOW!!!! It may be the last time you can afford it for many.... years to come.:smt089 When they get 18 and start college we'll talk about tuition & board, and then if they are girls don't even get me started on the wedding:smt021:smt100

I've been on Lake Erie for the last 21 years and on the western end of the lake some times you get 7 footer.......7 feet apart. It gets nasty quick.

Pool, definetely the pool!

The beach isn't great, except for the big inflatable slide...

My kids love the activities, playground, and the pools...4 days was a lot, but with a new puppy this was a good spot to be.
Thanks for the offer to look, if you see a good looking one, let me know!
