My new process with winterizing-Thoughts?

I read back through. I saw where it was mentioned to run the cocktail in the fuel filter but did not see where it was mentioned to fill the cool fuel module.interesting idea though...can this really be done?

Yes, sure can. Pull the filter out -- (3) 10mm bolts -- and then dump your cocktail mixture (well, not "yours"... keep yours in your hand! :smt001 ) into the filter housing, screw the lid back down and let 'er rip.

Note: If you've recently run the engine, give it a half hour or so before you pull the filter out as it could still be under some pressure. Or, at least, open the lid slowly and keep a big rag wrapped around the area. Sometimes the fuel module is still under pressure for an even longer time, but I've never had one totally spray fuel everywhere on me - it's, if anything, just a quickie like opening a beer (which the rag easily catches). But, I've never opened the module right after running the engine to say if it's any worse, or not. I'm probably being over cautious about this, but better safe than sorry.

Question though...that mixture is supposed to be run for 5 minutes at 1300 RPM, would adding the fuel to the cool fuel module allow enough gas to meet those requirements? Personally, I don't think it would, granted it would be better than doing nothing at all though.

Did I mention 5 minutes for the newer cool fuel module? I don't recall (and I'm too lazy to read back through to check!). But if I did, yes, a longer time is better. With the cartridge-type fuel filter, run it for 10 minutes. 5 minutes is for the spin-on filter. 5 minutes for the cartridge filter should still be "OK", but 10 minutes is better (and is what Merc recommends). Thanks for picking up on that, Scott.

The amount of the mix would be quite small if all you're doing is pulling the filter and replacing with mix. Is that what you guys mean....run it without the filter?

2 oz of 2 cycle and a splash of stabilizer. No, the filter gets put back in. That gives the equivalent of running the cocktail the way Scott does. Both ways work - it's just a personal preference.

Just a warning to those that don't fog their motors at lay up.....putting a new motor in my 300DA right now - lost compression in two cylinders - leak down test shows it leaking past the rings - due to corrosion caused during lay-up.....hell of a "stupid tax"

Why only 2 cylinders out of 16? Sounds like water intrusion to me. How long have you had this boat?
