I must say that it is tough raising a step grandson at 45 years old, especially when the mother is almost never in the picture and the dad won't even acknowledge he has a son. It has definitely changed our lifestyle on and off the water. But, I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world especially with moments like these.

A grandson at 45, holy cow. I'm 46 and have a 4 year old. I agree, wouldn't change it for the world!

Very cute! Makes life grand, doesn't it! :smt001

Jeez! I was 43 when my first was born, and 46 for the second. My Social Security checks will be going straight to some college.

Makes life more enjoyable! Glad your enjoying him Steve

I'm 52, our daughter is 17, we hopefully have quite a few years to go yet

I just turned 53 last weekend and our 16 year old granddaughter drove to the marina to wish me happy birthday. That is eye opening!

Aaaaw Steve and GFC, how cute they both are:) Know what you mean Steve about being a bit older and having to keep up, I take care of my 8 month old new shipmate while our daughter works, it's very rewarding and tiring but I have a few years on you (quite a few). Kudos to you and your wife for "doing the right thing" even though his parents don't, they may live to regret that one day, because when he grows up he's going to remember.

Looks as if Costco style life jackets are the "in thing":)

That little boy is blessed to have a grandfather like you in his life, bravo. And getting him into boating now will build strong character. Too many children are ignored and neglected these days and your doing your part to save the next generation.

I have a hard enough time being a Great Uncle! I'm 53 and the kids are 24 & 21 with no Grandkids in the near future. We're enjoying the empty nest right now, Mike.

Very nice Steve. It amazes me how many don't put their kids first. What ever happened to giving your kids a better life than you had....and by that I mean family and home life wise....not material things. Growing up in a boating family is priceless, I'm sure we all know how much getting away from the hustle and bustle and bad news society is today.

Here's my little captain at 4 months just two weeks ago...

He's so cute, love the glasses and he's so lucky to have such a great dad too :smt038, (they're getting scarce today I'm afraid).

Thats awesome Steve! Ours is going to be 1 next week. We've had him on the boat since he was 4 weeks old. I'm sure he doesn't remember much of last season though. We had him back out the first time this past weekend. He just loves being outside!

Thanks so much everyone. I really love seeing pictures of the kids on the boats. Making memories for everyone. Now if someone can make a life jacket that doesn't make them feel like they are in a straight jacket....

We are really blessed by him. As difficult as it is raising a baby all over again...it gives a guy a reason to get up every morning and bust his ass at work again. Another mouth to feed, another set of braces, another private school bill and another collage to pay for...yep worth every dime and every second I invest in him.

We have both of our grandsons with us. This is the youngest, Thijs. Has a lot of Burley blood!

im 55 Steve. Been a gramps for 8 years and love it!

Great pictures.

I got a 2 & a 4 years old sons. We're going on a day trip this Saturday and been trying to convince my wife it's ok to bring the younger one.

He hasn't been eating as much and get pretty skinny, and tents to throw up mid of long trip (1-2 hrs drive). So I mean, the wife has a point. But I still want him to be part of our first boat trip so much.

I just showed her this thread too, hope she'll change her mind. Hehehe. Poor guy if has to stay home.
