My first searay, my first big boat, need some basic help

The reason you're drawing a line on the plotter over land is because you have to determine the Waypoints on the water. Time sitting at the helm with the Quick Start after reading it at home will get you to where you want to be.

I know that USPS also runs courses on how to use Electronic Navigation units. It's a pretty decent course as we use it for the Canadian Power Squadron course. Look up your local Power Squadron, join it and take some courses. It helps and is a fun way to keep boating alive in the off season.

Impressive.

So you are either screaming along at 43.9 knots or you are in 43.9 feet of water or the water temp is a chilly 43.9 degrees.

Once you get used to plotting a course its pretty easy. I have a C80 and basically learned on the fly. A day or two before a trip I'll go down to the boat, crack a cold one and start plotting waypoints. It sucks its limited to 50 waypoints per course but you get used to it. Stretch them out where you can.

Haha im at waypoint 38, tried to delete all the data via the quick reference guide, but that didn't clear anything...i think im just doing everything wrong

Not sure if 'Aruthur' did something to the river, but everywhere around the marina was super shallow. Had to help a dockmate pull his boat in since it got stuck in the mud

I think it was the storm/winds from the northwest... Friday my boat was sitting in mud so much water got pushed out of the marina from the wind... and not mud that you can see below the water... directly on the mud, no water at all... walking side to side on the boat and it wouldnt even move a bit (and I am a pretty big guy). I am in Woodbridge for a marina now, but plan to move down to Hope Springs Marina once the slip contract ends at the end of September... can't wait to be minutes away from my boat...

Yes, I've never seen the water go down that low before. That would be a trip killer if you were planning on going out and you were stuck in mud.

You should check out Aquia Bay marina next to Hope Springs, not as modernized but the dockmasters are very nice and prices for slip/electric are cheaper. If you decide to compare, ask for George tell him Y sent you, he should be able to get you a good price.

Thanks for the tip, just showed my wife the website and she is excited. So I think that was a typo when you said to say "Y" sent me. and I want to say that your name is Ethan, but assuming things is not my strong suit... so before I go down after work today your name is Ethan right?

HAHA sorry for the misconception, my name is Wai pronounced Y. My son is Ethan and my rottweiler is Tank. So I name the boat after the both of them: Ethan's Tank [technically my dog] :)

Also, I do go by Ethan whenever I order carryout or put my name on a list, some people pronounce my name right, some call me 'Way' or 'Wei'. So if they call it wrong, I never hear it and so I just use my son's name Ethan

Haha. If your name is Wai, I take it you are Asian... looks like we have a little in common then... I am half Korean and I have a Rottweiler named Harley... from the way my wife sounded on the phone while she was looking at the marina website it looks like we will probably see you around the marina!

Very nice, yes half asian and half asian...chinese/vietnamese, completely americanized though. How does your rottie do on the boat? I haven't taken Tank out in the water since 2012, he was a pup then, about 4months, then about 65lbs. Now he is 2, 140lbs and completely obnoxious.
Well if you come down to the marina, Ill be there this weekend. Tim's 2 is having their annual firework show sat night. I think I have the biggest and newest boat there, so just look out for it on the floating dock.

Congrats on the new ride, very, very nice! Enjoy!

Saw your boat today. She is a beauty. I was so impressed with the overall feel of the place I verbally contracted in with George after he walked my wife and I around for a while. He asked how I knew you and I told him from the searay community online. I don't think he would have understood the whole Internet forum thing. Lol.

He got me set up with slip 40 on the floating pier which is close to your boat.

My rottie does great on the boat. She has always been pretty calm and easy going. She's a lot smaller than tank and only weighs about 80lbs and is about 6 years old.

I'm outta town on Saturday but I'm sure we will bump into each other soon.

thanks again for the tip on the marina.

Great! Now I can make more dock mates, good to match a name to a face too.

I do think I'm in F40, maybe George meant F44 since that one is open, that is 2 down from me. I should probably call and double check.

I'm planning on taking Tank on board real soon, he's pretty crazy and I've been double thinking it cause he may scratch up the teak. Guess I'll just have to wait and see.

When are you moving your boat down from woodbridge?

You are probably right about the slip number. I was kind of in a rush to pick my kids up from daycare so I didn't pay that much attention to the number.

I plan to move it as soon as I can. If the weather wasn't garbage I would have moved it today. So we will see how the weather plays out this next couple of days. Fortunately moving for me won't be as complicated as your trip was.
