My first Sea Ray

Lol, >.< thats what I get for trying to multitask at work. :smt101

I was going to get the manuals for the engines from Mercruiser, but I see that Sea Ray has parts books with exploded views of all parts and pieces that make up their boats; except it stops at 1989.

I'm still pulling teeth trying to get the OEM color number so I can call Spectrum for the gelcoat.

SR will not have the books on your engines. Those come from merc. It will cost you around $75.

SR will only go back 20 years for parts I think, so says my dealer. If there are any specific hull parts you need like port windows ect., get down to your dealer and order now while he can maybe match you up with an 89 model.

Just a quick update, finally got her home today! Between work and trying to acquire a good trailer for a good price I got it home.

Found a nice 28ft aluminum tandem trailer for $550.00... had a "free Beretta SS on it, 1989, it was gutted but engine and sterndrive were still in it. Volvo Penta 270 if anyone is interested.

Anyways, we gutted the Beretta and yanked it off and stuck the SR on it and limped it home. We had 4 dry rotted tires, the boat was hanging off the back due to the winch not being forward enough on the trailer... all being towed with a 1500 series chevy truck! recipe for disaster to say the least.

On top of that we picked up a 6" bolt in the rear tire of the truck from the yard it was sitting in, fantastic considering the tire is brand new from last month :smt013 But it's home!

I pressure washed it all down today and already the teak looks sooooo much better. I will get some photos on here of her in my back yard soon.

Funny story, me and my friend were in the back of the boat cleaning when we felt like we were moving... down... we leaned over and the tounge of the trailer was about 8ft in the air... the boat was so far off the rear of the trailer it was unbalanced. Needless to say we lightly stepped our way into the cabin until we heard a nice *thud* of the trailer jack hitting the blocks. :smt001 Chocked up the rear for now and all is well.

I will continue to update as I get more goodies on her.

i had the same boat there was no rear bench on mine.Searay sent me a photocopy of all the interior parts and the original owners manual ( mind you this was about 9-10 years ago so i may have been in the 20 year limit)Look forward to seeing a picture of your engine compartment with twins. keep updating with pics thanks

Nice, nice good luck at your project, I did the same thing here what alot of time but well worth it.

And some thought I was nuts tryng to fix up mine. Main trouble I have now is time. But oh well. Glad to see some more rolling up their sleeves and fixing these old jems. I wan into a guy who had a 88 ish 270 and before that a 70's 240. said they were great boats. Like me, bet you cant wait to get her in the water.

hey there Phish this thread is from last year, start a new thread with your pics.

Welcome aboard,
Enjoy your new boat and all the work you are about to start.
I have the 1980 SRV245 and it does not have the rear seat.

Hey Mariner's
I've spent twenty years in manufacturing saltwater and bass boats in mid Tennessee working for Joe Reeve's at Hydra Sports and Earl Bentz of Stratos and Triton.

I've been self-employed at home since 01' doing fiberglass repair. My son and I drove 1100 miles to retreive this classic 240. It came with very few flaws, run's like a top and can't wait to get it on the water.

I hope to be of some assistance with my background and experience.

Yeah I know I do but the reward will be amazing, I really dont think its too bad but well see I guess.I just noticed the fin that cuts the H20 on the lower unit ( near where the water intake) is is cracked. Ill take some pics, I wonder if i can just weld it?

Thanks
I could send you a pic of what's in mine, but don't know if it will help. I actually have all the manuels - plus a few of my 240

My sister has a boat that looks just like yours only I think it's in worse shape. She bought it without me looking at it first, bad move on her part. If she can't get her money back I think she is just going to part it out. So if there is anything you need just let me know.
