My first Sea Ray - 1999 370 Aft Cabin - Upgrade Process

Salon TV install - I'm very pleased with how this turned out, I built a frame that the tv snugly fit inside and wrapped it it a brown leather like vinyl. The new frame took the place of the old mirror (yes it was glass)

I thought about hanging the TV with a conventional wall mount but didn't want it to hang out very far, this way the tv is only about 1/4 inch past the original mirror frame. Now i'm thinking I want to put a mini wine fridge inside the cabinet where the old TV was. probably get rid of the doors and build some type of frame for it.

Out with the old. - forgot to get picture of old CRT tube tv inside the cabinet below the mirror

Finally got the new canvas up! I had a shop do the bridge enclosure and I did the aft enclosure. I went with solid sunbrella for the aft for two reasons. First it was a lot easier and I can add windows later if needed. Second we wanted the privacy.

I'm finishing up my aft davit system, have all the custom railing polished up, brackets are in just need to mount the sucker.

I like it! Also the TV install looks perfect! The solid canvas is not a bad idea you can remove a panel and still get some air, more air then windows/screens. Since you did it yourself have you considered maybe getting some of the screen material and duplicating a few panels of your solid canvas in full screen, then you get the circulation but keep the bugs at bay in the evening! Maybe duplicate 3 screen panels one on each side and one in the center... Just a thought.

Looks Good! I'll look for you on our travels around the Bay!!

Take Care!

That's not a bad idea, what type/brand of material is best? just regular mesh screen?

Exterior update:

I decided to go through the folks at my marina to get my boat compounded, buffed & waxed. They contract out to Prestige Yacht Management these are the same folks that did a good job on my shrink wrapping last winter. Scheduling was a bit of a hassle but weather could have been a factor. I popped down there while they were in the middle of the job, unfortunately no one spoke English so I couldn't ask questions. I wan't impressed with the progress they were making but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. The next day I went back, boat looks half done and the weather is not so great so I assume they will be back the following day. Went down again, still half done so I talked to the marina manager. He tells me that they just sent him the invoice for hte job saying it was complete and they added the extra hours for the additional buffing and waxing I requested to the guys that were there. WTF....

Marina manager is great! he went through the video and proved they did not spend the hours they said they did. they also agree that it's not finished and won't bill me until it's complete. I'm beginning to really dislike contractors, it's like they just have no pride in what they do. As for the 'extra compounding and waxing" i asked for... um no, I tried to ask if they were using compound or wax... tried to ask if compound would remove some old paint residue from the previous boat name...

it's never been more true the old saying .. if you want something done well, do it your self

This is one area where referrals pays off. We have a couple of guys in the area who are amazing and about 20 who want a check and do questionable work

Latest upgrade, I got a few quotes to get faux teak installed on the swim deck all of which were really high. One guy wanted 250.00 for each step! so I took matters into my own hands. I found these sheets of EVA faux teak mats on ebay for 99.00 each, not advertised as SeaDeck but I believe they are the same product. Two sheets were enough to do the swim deck, steps and I have enough left over to do the 2 steps up to the helm and the one down into the salon. They have a decent 3M adhesive on the back, easy to cut. I'll admit it looks best from 3+ feet once you get too close you can see some of my cuts were not the best

I think it looks great! How is the boat running?

Thanks, running like a champ! took her out today to burn some fuel, she was happy. For such a big boat it sure does get up on a plane quickly. well... I guess that could be subjective.

I've finally got around to installing the railing on the integrated swim deck. was not fun getting under the starboard side.. well wasn't fun for the wife.

The railing is 2"OD 304 stainless that I had bent and welded by a local exhaust shop, I spent a few hours sanding and polishing the raw metal. The top clamps you see are wakeboard tower speaker mounts that I will use to mount my Smoke Hollow grill to. I used some bimini parts to make the gussets. quick release base that sits nice and flush on the swim deck. to attach the gussets to the railing I lucked out and found a set of clamps specifically designed for 2" OD tube. I used 5200 when sealing / mounting the base plates... so far so good

Next weekend I'll be installing my Atkins Hoyle swing davits so I can hang my RIB W/ 8HP motor off the back

Excellent....great thread.

The upgrades look great! I'd like to know more about the faux teak flooring. I know you've only installed it a few weeks ago, but I'd like to know what you think about the quality? Do you think the 3M backing is enough to keep it place? I also found it on EBAY and it said it was being shipped from China, how long did it take for yours to get delivered?
On more question lol now that you've installed it, would you do it again?

Thanks,
Dave

Thanks, one thing to be aware of is that there is some shrinkage in the first month. I was already aware of this and expected it to happen. I wiped down the surface with acetone before sticking the mats down, I think this helped a lot because I had to cut out holes for the back railing and peel up some of the matting. It's stuck on good! it actually stayed on the fiberglass (pain to clean off) and separated from the mat.

It cuts easy I used some disposable scalpels to do most of it. If you have a steady hand you will do fine. I made some templates with clear thick plastic and transferred it to the sheets. It looks great until you get about 2 foot away then you can see some of my crappy cuts. That's completely my fault for not taking my time. once the shrinkage is done I plan on caulking the borders which will hide my mistakes.

Would I do it again? absolutely and I probably will. I have enough left over to do some interior steps, I may get a few more sheets to do the aft deck and cockpit.

There was a ever so slight color difference between the two sheets however I don't notice it any longer so not sure what was up with that.

Not fun for mine either...

haha you got me in trouble!! I showed my wife this post, her first reaction was embarrassment thinking I took a picture of her. When I said no that's some other woman, I saw the anger boiling up. she said "What other woman?"

I started laughing then quickly realized I had better start explaining.

we had a good laugh after, so thanks.

Thanks very much! We are going to place an order tonight. I will post a pic once it's done :)

just stumbled upon this thread.... as far as that decking goes, I was going to go with the teak weave snap in carpet for about $1200 , but this is like a light shining down from the heavens now! I think I will go for it.

question , I see in the listing pictures for this stuff , there is some fancy "mitered" edgework done around the teak deck sections . did you do this ? also would the edging strips be flexible to do curves? it has a bunch of that in the pictures as well.
