Twin 454 Horizon MAG MPI - replaced 2016
HI folks, we recently purchased our first Sea ray and can't wait to take her out on the water. Our previous boat was an older Sunrunner 235, had good and bad times with that boat but sold it a little over 10 years ago, needless to say we got the itch again. This 370 is in great condition inside and out, the motors only had 600 hours but one needed a head job because of a failed manifold. We got the boat for a decent price so I decided to go ahead and replace both motors. I searched high and low for some forum where someone has already done this with and Aft Cabin. I couldn't find any information so I figured I would share it here, hopefully someone will find it useful.

The boat:

Congratulations! Very nice! Enjoy!

Welcome to ClubSeaRay!

Cheers

Love those era aft cabins...welcome. Tell us more about the new engines.

That quite an upgrade, she looks great - enjoy.

Congrats!

Got a ride in one of those beauties about 15 years ago.
That boat and that ride convinced me that I wanted a Sea Ray!

Hey thanks for the warm welcomes everyone.

Snapped some more pictures the first couple are of a small gantry assembled inside the salon. The heads had to be removed to fit through the door, not sure what will be done to get the new long blocks in.

The motors are Remanufactured blocks w/new heads & internals
7.4L Horizon MAG MPI 380 HP each. I went with Barr manifolds because I plan on replacing them every 3 years. The injectors will be sent out for service.

New:
Manifolds
Risers
Spacers
Timing Cover
Motor Mounts
Sea Water Pump
plugs
wires
cap/rotor

More new bits to go in the boat

I was disappointed when I found out that I missed the smart craft boat (pun intended) by only a few years, I really like the idea of having a "Smart Boat". I did some digging and thanks to both the intewebs and one very knowledgeable guy over at Livorsi i discovered there are a couple manufactures of analog to NMEA converters. I went with the AlbaCombi because it seemed better thought out and has more inputs.

The idea here is to tap off the analog signals at the helm and feed them through the converter into a Raymarine MFD - I've not decided which model, probable an a98 or es98. I'll also run some lines for battery voltage, fuel levels and it even has shunt connection to measure current which I will use for the house battery bank. If this works out well I'll probably add a second unit for the genset, holding tanks and other misc items I find to connect to it.

Nice boat well done project so you can use smart craft gauges on the boat? or are you funneling everything to a MFD

Yes, everything is going through a Raymarine 9" MFD, the AlbaCombi converts all the analogue signals and are assignable as any NMEA2K device. I'm keeping the analogue gauges as they are fully functional and it's not necessary to replace them. I'll have data on both motors, the gen, fuel tanks, transmissions, shunts on both starting banks and the house bank. The only thing I have not planned on (yet) is to hook into the holding tanks and other systems

Yes, mechanics followed engine manufactures instructions and used the break-in oil they supplied. They also drill primed the oil before cranking.

Gtfireftr may have been referring to the break in procedures that recommend not running wide open at all and to vary the rpm often for the first few hours of life. I don't remember how long your supposed to do that.

welcome to the club. I have a maxum 4100 sca aftcabin, and love the boat.we are also doing alot of upgrades this year.Enjoy, and if their is any info that i can help, just ask. was down to the Annaplois boat show last weekend, and loved the area. You guys have beautiful cruising area.

Nonassignable? So are toying that the converters do not work? I was interested in doing the same thing.
