Sometimes, people/companies surprise you!

Here's what happened...

Purchased an "07" 260DA from dealer not to be named in Norwalk. Well, all was great. Fast forward to this spring...complete bottom paint failure. This was addressed with "Norwalk" on April 3rd. After a couple days of going back and forth, they agreed to "stand by their work" and fix the issue. Well, all work was scheduled to be done on April 27th..Received confirmation e-mail...the whole deal. Then, on April 26th, I get a call from the A$$**** GM of this lousy facility telling me that they are not responsible and will not perform the work. Now a month had gone by and this was a month of lost time as I could have been making alternative arrangements. Total BS job by this dealer whom I will NEVER EVER be associated with again.

Now the GOOD part...

A not to be named SeaRay dealer in WESTBROOK, CT (where I have my boat), knew what had happened. He calls me out of the blue on Saturday and tells me that what happened wasn't right, he talked to his guys, and will be performing the work on my boat free of charge. He finished today and it looks great. This dealer had NO INTEREST OR LIABILITY in this issue. He just decided to show his character and do the right thing. My wife and I will be looking for a 380DA at the end of this season....this company that showed this amount of character and service will be getting my business.

Not too many companies out there that will step up to the plate, spend money on an issue that had NOTHING to do with them...just because it was "the right thing to do".

Just wanted to share this...

Isn't it marinemax either way? Same company getting your money...that's probably why westbrook (the old bassett) jumped in - either way, glad they made it right...have a great season - my buddy just called me from I dock - he's in the water and commissioning his boat....

Great story! Glad to hear things worked out for you, and that there are still honest/charitable people in this world.

Sea Ray is afraid of Marine Max due to their size - so no point really. I bought my boat through a MM in Fl - and that is now the last place in the world I would do any boat shopping.

It does little good to make a post either complaining about or complimenting a dealer unless you name them. By all means don't slander a dealer, but if you are reporting facts, then let the chips hit where they fall.

I believe there is a growing problem with Sea Ray dealers in properly handling customer service. There are a lot of reason for this from inadequate staffing due to cut backs, to bad business practices where the dealer is only interested in the big lick when they sell a boat, to faulty measurement of customer service by surveys from Sea Ray. A number of Sea Ray people follow the posts here so it is very important that you list the name of a poor performing dealer and just maybe, someone who counts will see it.

My post was more geared toward celebrating a very good dealer...MarineMax in Westbrook, CT. Again, most companies woul not have made the gesture they did having no stake in the issue.

As far as the sh*tty dealer goes, I will leave them unnamed.

MonacoMike brings up a good point. The thing that allows a bad dealer to remain in business is the bad reputation he builds does not spread among the boating community. Unsuspecting boaters keep coming to his business expecting to be treated fairly. If what you say is true and accurate you could be doing fellow boaters a favor by naming this business that lacks customer service.

If we boaters don't stick together on issues like this and all we do is gripe about poor service without identifying the company, we have nobody to blame but ourselves when the trend continues.

Really guys.....just do a Google search - how many sea ray dealers do you think there are in norwalk ct?

It's interesting what people read into something that's not there.

In the first post, the OP didn't mention that he bought the boat from a SR dealer. He did mention that it was an SR dealer that came to his rescue.

Just sayin'
