Based on advice from this web site, I stopped in at Best Buy and was looking at TV's. I wanted a TV/DVD Combo, but none were bright enough for my cockpit. Then, I saw the LED LCD TVs. The insignia caught my eye. I checked the power cords for ones with converters in line. The Insignia LEDs had them. This is probably to keep heat out of the set and keep it thin - they are THIN. The converter was HOT to the touch (on all day, and very inefficient).

I couldn't help it. It was 1/2 the price of my 19" Jensen Marine TV. It's also a 22". It's also 1080p (advertised). It was very bright. I bought it. Yesterday, my wife and I watched Fl Basketball at the beach, in the cockpit, on a 100% sunlit day - It passed the test. It uses no more than 3 AMPS!!!!!!!!!!!

I moved my Jensen to the cabin today. I had to move the top 1/2 of the tv mount shelf forward 2" and had to move the mount up 2 1/2". (Phone Photos) I may move the cabin TV back down a little.

That's funny, I was at the boat this afternoon, took out the stock TV and was trying to decide the best way to go. I am looking at a 23" Visio LED that would work the same as your setup. I was trying to visualize the mount and never thought about a bulky mount like that. I think that's the way to go to make it sturdy enough.

How close to the laminate does the back of the TV come? My concern is banging against the cabinet whule underway. I am trying to figure out a way to brace it to the cabinet.

My other thought was one TV, not mounted and use it for the cabin and the cockpit?

I just added the 32" version of that same 1080P HDTV with built in BluRay DVD player.
Got it at Best Buy for $399 as it was an open box item.

Looks great on your boat

I left out the best part! I was searching for in-line converters because I planned to cut it out and wire to DC. When I got to the boat, the wiring for my DC Jensen worked perfectly! Same rating and plug.

The bulky support is how the tv comes in the flat panel boats. The box is used to store DVDs. Mine is about 1/2" from the cabinet. I don't have any extra support - neither did the original TV.

Thanks! Almost the same. I went with LED LCD to get a bright enough picture for the cockpit. Plus, I would love to have a BluRay with mine.

Do you have a DVD connected to the cockpit LED TV or does it have a built in DVD player?

How is the sound on the Insignia LED tv? I don't see any traditional speakers in the pic?

I have a DVD connected to it. My forward DVD player serves the forward tv and the ceilling mount tv in the mid berth. I tapped into the audio/video at the mid berth tv and ran it to port behind the cabinet in the mid berth. From there, I went up to the bar - this is in the area where you can see/access the battery charger.

Also, I connected my forward DVD player to the stereo "Aux" input for good sound without using the FM transmitter which came with the mid berth ceiling tv.

Another great point I forgot to mention. When I bought it, I noticed the speakers were mounted on the back. I researched an audio out to go to the stereo Aux input before I bought it. When I got it to the boat, I learned that the sound was really great. The aft speakers are like my home tv in that they provide surround sound. There is plenty of volume. I do not plan to run audio out for now - don't need it.

I just bought the same LED TV yesterday and plan to mount it on the bulkhead down below. I'm going to make the old mid-cabin TV cabinet into a cupboard.

I've got a 17" Insignia that I might put on deck. Anyone know where to find a stainless mount for over the cockpit sink?

can someone tell me where to get this stainless steel mount for the cockpit? I have been wanting something exactly like this. or was this custom made?

where do the cables go in? the pipe?

any info will be appreciated.

thanks

The pipe goes into a holder that is designed to mate with it. They were both from the SR Dealer. I routed the cables back behind the bar below the 3rd Captain's style seat to port. I drilled a hole through the back of the bar and lined it with one of those plastic hole lining fittings that shields water from the top but allows the cables in from the bottom. Can't remember where I got that. I routed the cables all around from there.

Seeing those pics brings back very fond memories. I loved that TV set-up. I had that entire boat set up with DC powered entertainment systems. Very convenient. Our current HDTV antenna requires AC, so we went with AC powered TV's... I've been running the genny a lot just to keep football recording for later viewing - at night - on the beach. My genny has 1500 hours on it. I've been running it almost 1000 hours/year.
