I bought this project a couple weeks ago. I've asked a few questions but with no luck. I've started gutting the cuddy and replacing the wood trim which the previous owner took off to restore. Overall it's in great shape, just needs some elbow grease...and an engine. I've decided to pull the gas tank as I suspect its dirty/leaks. Easier to do it now with no engine. I'm hoping this job is easier than I am imagining. Here's some pics, I'll update when I get new pics. I have a vortec 350 and Alpha 1 gen 2 pretty much ready for install once I deal with the tank.

Amazing the simalaritys. To mine. Good luck with her. That is a nice project to complete.

Thanks for the responces. Any chance you guys have pics of the exterior wood work? I have pieces that I am a little unsure where they go. Anyone ever pulled the gas tank on one of these? I saw someone pulled one out of a flybridge open style cabin. My tank seems a little trickier to get at, but will know more tommorrow.

I'd be happy to take pics when I get back to my shop but the only exterior wood I have is the bow pulpit/seat and the swim platform. Google sea ray archives. They have pdf files of sales brochures of boats back to 1965. Check that out too.

I hate to jump too far ahead on your project, but you mentioned having vortec 350 and alpha 1 Gen 2 outdrive. Do you have the transom plate that goes with that? Did your boat come with the pre-alpha outdrive? I need to replace my engine too and was looking for a more modern power plant.

I'm thinking of scrapping my idea of pulling out the tank. I really don't see how it is actually possible to get it out. I'm thinking of leaving it in place, flushing etc and just using tanks in the available space at the front of the engine compartments, running two tanks. Or maybe I can cut out the engine compartment part of the tank to make room? Obviously with tank fully flushed/cleaned.

I bought a vortec longblock, I also bought a 1996 Blown Mercruiser LX for all parts, exhaust, pulleys, carb(hopefully), lastly I bought a used Alpha gen 2 drive from bellhousing back, bought a coupler, so I should have 90% at least of the parts I need...less some gaskets and nuts. Once I figure out my gas tank situation, I'll post pics of progress.

Have put most woodwork back in place to date including engine compartment hatches, and started getting the cuddy ready for carpet refit. Original cushions are pretty clean, as are the rest of the interior, cushions.

Whats preventing you from pulling the tank?

Look up SeaRay Joe he had a nice thread about refreshing his very similar boat.
