My $500 270DA.

The shape definitely says "table" to me, too, but the fact it doesn't have any pedestal hardware or evidence of having any in the past seems odd.

Any chance it's an overlay for the existing table? I can't tell if it's the same size, but if you put it with this bracketed side down, does it fit snugly over it to cover the cupholders, etc.? Even if it's larger than the existing, if the brackets are spaced to sit around/in between the contours of the other one, it would stay where you put it.
You are absolutely correct sir!
It simply sits on top of the smaller table, and the wooden pieces keep it tight and prevent it from moving around and stay stable.

Thanks so much!

Score!

Just now looked back at some of your photos--looks like the rails and hinged top of your cabin door are missing. Are those some of the pieces you've removed for repair?

Yeah, it wasn't working so well, and some of the veneer was starting to peel, so I took it home and am going to rebuild it.

I'm really psyched that people are actually interested in this restoration! It's like my dream project, but most people aren't terribly interested.
I'll start posting more pictures and updates if you guys would like; things are really starting to happen now.

I do have a question: does anyone know of any company that makes nice flip flop benches? I'm planning on ripping out the helm bench and replacing it with a captains chair and I was thinking a flip flop bench would be perfect, but they all look kind of cheap and unfinished to me.
I already picked up the captain's chair; found it on Craigslist, it's a beautiful Sea Ray chair with a fold of bolster and everything, in perfect shape. I'll post a picture tomorrow, but I gotta go to bed!

just an FYI-i'm interested in this project and have been following it. i just don't have anything to add so haven't commented. keep the updates coming...with pics:smt038

I chuckle every time I see your thread pop up, "My $500 270." You've been bitten by the bug that got ahold of me....you'll be $10K into this thing by the time it hits the water! Keep up the good work!:smt038

Haha, well I knew what I was getting into... been a boater my whole life (while growing up my family had 20ft and 26ft bowrider Sea Rays, as well as a 370 Sundancer).
And my last boat was a bit of a project; I'd say it took the majority of the first season with it to get everything finally all worked out.

Here's some pics to make things somewhat interesting:

So I've decided that rather than rebuilding and reupholstering the helm bench, I'm going to do more or less this:

So I picked up this captain's chair locally from a guy on Craigslist. I love it!

Cleaned up the galley. Turned out really well! It's amazing how well this boat cleans up and "comes back"; you can tell it was well taken for except for the last few years.
(I have since put the drawers back in, I had them out to oil them, and I picked up a new faucet).

Powerwashed/cleaned the cushions I picked up from a 270 at a salvage yard. They look pretty good, definitely passable, at least for this season.

So these were in the boat I bought the interior out of. I for the life of me can't figure out where they had planned on putting them, or even go to this boat. None of them seem to fit anywhere.
This isn't my boat, BTW, these are pics from the boat I got the interior from.

That's about it for now. My carb rebuild kits finally came in, as did my Pertronix ignition stuff and plug wires, so now it's time to see if she'll fire up.
Crossing my fingers!

The long ones look like the back seat.
You mean the aft cabin?
I brought them all home to conserve some space, one of these days I may take them back and see if I can figure out where they might go.

I thought they looked like they were from the back seat area on the rear of the boat. My 1982 does not have a door on the transom so it has room for a larger seat
Not sure where they go. Great work keep the updates coming.

I can't help much because I'm not familiar with your boat, but I certainly am interested in the project.

You do realize you you have piqued a bunch of nitpickers, right?

Unfortunately haven't had the chance to do much lately; I broke one of the struts on my car, and have been waiting for parts to come in. They're supposed to be here tomorrow, so hopefully I can start getting out there more regularly.
I did have a carpet guy who I've been talking to for the past few weeks come out and use a fancy measuring tool to get an exact template of the floor carpeting that I have all ripped out right now, and he basically loads it into a CAD-type program, and a machine cuts it to the exact correct dimensions with finished edges, and apparently it's such a precise fit he doesn't even use adhesive. I just need to pull the trigger on some carpet and I'll have that taken care of!
That will just be for the horizontal floor surfaces though; I may just by some extra of whatever carpet I choose and try my hand at adhering it to the vertical surfaces. Or, I did find some rather cool veneer I could use... I dunno, we'll see. I'm just anxious to get that nasty coral colored carpet out of there.

Ah, gotcha.

Yep, tried that - the long sections aren't long enough to fill that whole bench, and the two together are much too long.
After looking and arranging the aft cabin cushions, I can see how they somehow may fit in there - but they way they are dirty makes me think they were in the cockpit, not the cabin.
I dunno, whatever - like I said they are definitely amateur done, but that is loads better than the aft cabin cushions I've got now, so maybe I will trim/alter them to fit back there.

Request: Could anyone post a picture of your 80's 270 Sundancer aft cabins, cushions up or down; both would be ideal!

That may give me an idea of how they may potentially fit.

I think I may have made a mistake and threw one or two too many cushions away, lol, so I think I'm missing some aft cabin cushions anyway.
Not too worried about it, for the first season I'd be fine with just throwing an inflatable bed roughly the correct dimensions and put sheets over it.
More concerned with getting her running, and reliably, so I can get out on the water as much as I can; not everything has to be perfect right away (in fact, having already owned an older boat, I know that's likely impossible! They're never perfect!).

Glad you folks are interested! I think once I (finally) get into the motors and drives, I'm going to have a lot of questions, so hopefully you guys are still interested then!
And I welcome the nitpicking in fact I appreciate it.... Although I may not be able to all right away, I want to do this thing right, and you guys seem to be by far the wealthiest source of knowledge I've found online, and for that I'm greatly appreciate of.

Will keep this thread updated; hopefully lots more frequently!

Thanks very much, I'll take a look!

So, progress from today, for anynoe who's interested; i scrrubbed, powerwashed aand hot water exttracted the cushions I pulled from the salvaged boat. Tough to say how well they came out since they're still wet, but the water coiming out of the hot water extractor was nasty, so they'ren certainly much cleaner than they were - and I'm hoping it should have a dramatic impact on the smell. I will let them air dry and blow them out with an air compressor every day or so until they're completely dry.

Mtcg5Eh.jpg

They should lighten up considerably as they dry and I use the air compressor.
The aft cabin cushions I've unzipped and am going to pre-treat and throw in the wash. I'm not looking for pristine quality, just a boat that is clean, comfortable and gets the job done. Perhaps a full reupholstering down the line.

As for the helm, I've come to realize that most of it would need to be reubilt and would be expensive to reupholster, so I think I've decided I'm going to rip the helm out and replace it with a captain's chair and a flip/flop bench - that way the folks on the bench can face forward or aft, and I can simply swing the captain's chair around and join the party.
Something like this:

Y9O3SJW.jpg

It's actually be much cheaper than reupholstering the helm, and I kind of dig the flexibility of the seating.
Would anyone happen to know the brand of that bench in the picture? I quite like, goes well with the boat.

The original cabin carpet is a coral type of color, which actually isn't bad, so if it cleans up well with the hot water extractor I'll just keep it, at least for now.

That leaves the only thing left in the cockpit to address, which is the rear fold out bench. I believe I'll have to rebuild the structure, but will have the cushion reupholstered professionally.

BUT, first things first: motors, drives and a marine survey. i just want to know the condition of the stringers and the transom before I put any money into her. If all comes back well, I'll pull the drives and give them a complete service, and hopefully get this gal ready for the water. Can;t wait! Hoping everything goes well.

P.S. Random question: How the hell do the pads above the bow cushions come out? Mine are all chewed up, and I'd like to remove them and have them reupholstered, but I cannot figure out how they come out.
Any advice? They really detract from the appearance of the cabin, and I have a fabric in mind that I think would look great.

P.P.S. - how in the world do you remove the table pedestal in the cabin? It almost seems like you have to cut some carpet, but I can't believe Sea Ray would be that foolish. Maybe I just need some PB blaster and some muscle.

Once again, and input and suggestions are appreciated;
Thanks!

Corey

The helm interior is an exact match to my 1982 270 interior.
The pads in the v-birth come out in my boat by pushing a fabric button to the side and poking a Phillips head screwdriver in.

I will try to get a picture of my aft cabin cushions this week. They are out of the boat for recovering. I am planning on a different cushion layout for the aft cabin. My kids sleep back there and it is always used as a bed and not as a seating area. It's to small to sit back there anyways. If I have any cushions that you need you can have them for shipping only. The fabric is pulled off so it will just be the foam.

Ooh, really? Is your flip/flop bench wooden like that? Because I've been trying to find one like that; most look cheap, but that one looks rather nice.

Thanks so much for the offer! I may go a similar route as you (eventually), the aft cabin cushions were kind of odd. I'm pretty sure I accidentally threw the really weird shaped piece with little "legs" out from both interiors I had on accident
Honestly I don't see the aft cabin getting used all that much, at least not this first summer. My guess is it will be where everyone throws their crap, and on overnighters, I could just put the fillers up and put an inflatable mattress there.
Remember, it's my first summer with a previously neglected boat, so not everything has to be perfect!

Same flip flop bench. My back cushion is not as thick but looks to be the same seat. The PO moved the seat towards the front of the boat to leave some room for your feet to rest.

Killer - do you know what brand it is, or where you can buy them?

I have an 84 260 in good working order but needs a lot of cosmetic work. This thread is inspiring! Keep up the good work! Subbed!
