OK guys...I am pretty sure all of you who have newer MPI engines dont have a 6 gallon tank and hook it up when you go to fog your MPI engines according to the manual.
My question is what methods are you using? I am a noob to the MPI engine and have all winter to learn about it, read the manual, etc

Dispite what reterick you hear or read, I simply use 10oz's of Rislone oil additive poured diectly into the intake or throttle body with engine at 1500 on dry land. No this won't hurt the impeller for the 20 seconds it takes to do this.

Brad,
Are you saying that you run the engine with no cooling water attached to the outdrives, or thru-hulls?
And you pour it into the air intake, which is, I assume, under the flame arrestor?

Please give us more detail.
Thank you in advance,

Details.....please!!!! Everything I hear and read says certainly use water.....I am by no means arguing at all but just trying to get things clear

I've been wondering if anyone has everused this fogging mix. The six gallon container is the problem how would you connect it to your fuel system?

On the Merc 8.1 the procedure was the following:
  • Shut off fuel supply.
  • Remove the spin off water separating filter.
  • Dump the fuel into a container.
  • Add two oz. of two cycle oil to fuel and mix.
  • Pour mixture back into spin-on filter.
  • Re-install filter.
  • Run engine until it stalls.
And I didn't just make this up, it's from the owner's manual. I have done it three times and the main trick is keeping the filter level when you're moving it around so you don't spill (too much) fuel on yourself!

I believe going through the throttle body creates problems in fuel management because sensors get screwed up. Crusader recommends the filter approach. Since I'm inside and heated, I've not done this in many years. I don't think I would pour or spray fogging oil through the throttle body unless the manual said to do it.

Prodigal, that is the method I have heard more than once. I am curious as to why the larger 8.1 is outlined to fog in this manner and not the 4.3......Who knows????

On the other hand, is there a Merc service bulletin that may have covered this topic already?

SeaRay300,
Yes that is exactly what I am saying. It is not as taboo as everyone thing\ks. The impellers won't just blow up if they turn on no coolant. Winterizing as many engines as I do, I don't have the time to go through all the procedures some of the guys do. Yes pour fogging oil into intake under flame arrester. I will make a post showing exactly how to do it correctly.
Brad

Guys, look for the post I will put up regaurding the way I winterize an engine. Oh by the way, I am a Preimer Crusader dealer, fogging the way I discribe will hurt any sensers.

Forgive me again....but your saying it will hurt sensors????? Or is that a typo?

brad,

I think (hope) you left out a "not" in your last sentence. i.e. will "not" hurt any sensors!

Looking forward to the post won winterizing. Are you going to show us how you do the antifreeze as well?

Wish I was up your way. we could video it and put it on the CSR youtube page.

thanks,

How long does it take to stall

I turn off fuel supply lines.Remove fuel filter /water seperator and drain or replace(this should be done at layup regularly as water left in seperator will rust out and or freeze in winter) disconnect fuel line at the flare nut, screw on barb hose adapter, connect fuel line from dink fuel tank, pour extra oil and stabilizer in dink fuel tank. This all sounds complicated but actually only takes a few minutes with proper supplies ready. Now run boat on mixture for recommended 10 min.

Guys,
What about a theory (I've herd) that it's not necessary to fog the fuel injector and cylinders? I was told that this is an over kill, since the fuel staybilizer takes care of it after running the engines for 20-30min at idle.

Thanks,
Alex.
