Mph gauge not working

I have a 2005 220select. I was wondering where is the sensor/pickup for the mph. Both my MPH dial and electronic readout our not working. Everything else is ok. Thanks for any help. Don C.

the sensor/pickup is on the leading edge of your outdrive. There is a small hole there that is probably clogged. Use a small drill bit to clear it out ... don't use drill, use drill bit by hand.

Thanks a lot. I am going to clean the boat today, we used it yesterday. I will check it out. I though it might be that, but i also thought that was for water intake to the motor only. Thanks again

It's also possible the small black plastic line has come off the fitting on the out drive. With the drive raised up look in the area towards the top of the drive closest to the transom. You should be able to see (or feel) the small black hose I am talking about. If it feels tight then you are OK. If it's loose, then it just has to pushed back on to the fitting (unless the fitting itself is broken).

If any of you guys have a gps on the boat with nema out wires you can hook it to your smartcraft speedo so the speedo uses gps speed rather than that outdrive pickup which gets glogged all of the time.

Thanks a lot. The small hole was clogged with a piece of wood. I used an awl and opened the hole. I blew into it and it now works. Thanks again Don C.

Yea, we stopped worrying about the speedometer. On our lake, it clogs up often. I used to keep a small bit and thick paperclip on board and would jump in the water to clean it out. Losing battle.

We do not use speed much as the indicator anyway when wakeboarding now. We look at the wake shape and rpm's to get the better indication.

I also find the gauge to be sporadic. Never use it. .. .rely instead on GPS.

This sounds interesting. Any details on the wiring specs?
