Mounting upper half of magnetic closure transom swim ladder cover

I am trying to mount a replacement magnet on the underside of my transom swim ladder cover. I called 3M and they did not recommend any adhesive for the job as it's difficult for stainless to bond to any type of marine adhesive. And since there were no screw holes to use machine screws (not to mention it would look horrible) I wanted to get some opinions on how to mount the magnet.

Not sure of your model.... but my '07 240 Sundeck has a molded hockey size disc moounted to the under side of the cover. Then the magnetic ball mount is screwed to it.

Is the "molded hockey size disc" molded into the underside of the cover? The underside of my ladder cover on my '07 240SD is smooth.

Yes it is. Then two screws are used to mount the ball assembly.

Based on your responses I dug a bit deeper and found I'm totally missing the molded mounting block that the magnet attaches to. Thx for your help.
