Has anyone ever mounted there dingy motor down in the ER. I don't like laying it down in the trunk. Would be nice if someone had pix of a mount or other place to keep motor while under way. BTW it's a yamahahaha 8 h.p:smt100

Thats a hot button around here - your introducing gas fumes into a non ignition protected environment........hard to get every trace of gas out even if you "run it dry"

How're you storing your dinghy? Why can't you leave the motor attached?

I'm not sure about the Yammy, but when I run my 6 HP Merc (Tohatsu) until it stalls, the bowl will still have a surprising about of fuel.

Disconnecting and dragging the motor to the ER is a PITA as it is, but draining all the fuel just adds more hassle. I'm not sure it's worth it, unless you use your dinghy rarely. Perhaps it's worth looking in to good davits system (if you don't have one).

There's a drain screw at the bottom of the carb to drain remaining fuel out. I use it only when winterizing the motor.

My dingy tilts up on swim platform with IDK what kind of dav system and attaches with stand off arms?? In other words it doesn't lay flat so don't think i can leave attached to dingy. Anyother thought of where to store???

It sounds like you have weaver davits: http://www.weaverindustries.com/index.cfm

I would look in to two options:
1. If it fits in the stern locker, then store it in there (prop facing the shore power electrical connections). The motor has dedicated side it can lay on (there should be a label) without issues.
2. If you can't use or don't like option 1, then I would look in to making a bracket (not the whole arm like you see in the picture, just a small bracket) attached to dinghy's stern to flip the motor while the dink is on the side.

ya I think it is the weaver. Any way i think it would just be the transom locker I am not to hip on the looks of the motor hanging off the back never mind if it ever falls off.

I would do the same. That's why I put stern locker as option 1. I would put dry-deck panels and make some simple frame for the motor to lay firm without much movement. But, I have to tell you that chances are you won't be very happy with this as 8HP is quite heavy and dragging it back an forth will be a PITA. Maybe before investing time and money it's worth reconsidering to modify your davits? Dominic used weaver receivers to attached the ramps. It came out very nicely. I'll try to find the thread for you.

Ok I might be able to try something to that nature thanks

Check into the Weaver Lever...it is one of the coolest inventions ever! The motor kinds of pivots in place without taking it off and while underway hangs straight up and down...all in place on the transom of your dinghy. Very easy to pivot up and then down and is a huge time/hassle saver. I wouldn't boat without it!
