Mercruiser 888 (302)
I have to replace my Mercruiser 888 (1977 302 188hp) in my '77 SRV 220. I have located a good used Mercruiser 888 (302, 188hp) that runs strong and is in good shape. My question is: It is out of a 1977 or 1979 Bayliner---will it fit in my SRV220? Shouldn't it just "bolt right in"? My first thought is that it should work fine, but I dont know how outdrive connections, transom design, etc comes into play, if at all. To me, it seems like it should be the same, as Mercruiser prob didnt make motors specific to different boat manufacturers, but I have never had to replace a boat motor before.

My 77 SRV220 has a Pre-Alpha outdrive, this used motor comes with a working outdrive that looks like mine---does it make difference that it is from a Bayliner? Again, shouldnt the Mercruiser powertrain items be the same for Sea Ray as for Bayliner?
