Motor clicks and I have to use emergency switch

My 2005 340’s starboard engine starts fine port clicks. I have to use emergency switch. When running the battery gauge for the starboard stays constant, the port fluctuates back and forth 1 volt..???? Confused

Check your port battery. Make sure it has water and can hold a charge. I had a battery explode with the similar symptoms. Charger cooked the battery.

How new are your batteries?

Most Probably a cooked battery, but also check the starter solenoid.

And connections, especially ground. But, verify battery isn't cooked off 1st, as, if it is, it can explode when you hit the starter button.

Time to replace the batteries...especially if you don't know the history.
