Hi all
I would like to install a device that would turn on your lights with a motion sencer anyone done this???? some times I go down to my boat at night with a flash light would be nice to walk in and lights go on... That would be sweet...

anyone??

Good idea. I would think that 12v sensors are made. Maybe start with a google search for "12v motion sensors"? I bet that would probably turn up some results.

While I can't say for sure, there's a possibility that a 120v motion sensor might actually run on 12v. Meaning, just jump your 12v power lead in downstream of the internal 120v to 12v converter.

Then, keep using your master switch to activate/deactivate the motion sensor so you can sleep without the light coming on everytime you move.

Sorry I can't be of more help - maybe the thoughts can help.:smt001

I was playing with that and it didn't work out for us. Getting it aimed was problematic, then the motion sensor was triggering when the waves hit the boat and stuff like curtains moved in the cabin. I might could have found solutions for useability, but ultimately the Only Mate made me abandon that research project.

Maybe this would work for you? I used this for my overboard discharge - I just wired it in parallel with the stock, keyed-macerator switch so I could control it both ways.

It's not "hands off" like the motion sensor would be (although, according to Jedi, it sounds like there might be too many things to set it off... unless the sensitivity can be adjusted), but it does work as advertised. There's a 4-channel version, too.

We have a large flag pole with a photocell that turns the flood light on at dusk. You could do something similar using a low wattage yellow light on the dock that would put some light into the cockpit through the side windows. We have enough ambient light from our flagpole lighting that insures walking onto the dock at night and stepping into the boat is not a safety issue.

We've been working on this for a while, and I found something at Wallyworld we are going to put in any unlit lockers and cabinets. Not sure yet how well they work, but battery operated, mount anywhere, and at about $8 each (a boat dollar rounding error) they were worth a try.

Except when the wife asks you to get something that she left above and you sneak up in your underwear or worse and the lights all come on. :smt043

We have a store in Canada called Princess Auto and they sell key fobs with the module for around $25.00. They are automotive, so they are 12V and they can connect to almost anything on the boat that you want to power, dead easy to put a relay in there and turn all the lights on in the cockpit area.

Ken

Seems they have a multi control unit only now for $44.99
