Mother Nature put on a great show for me today..

Water is up to 67-70F here in so-cal which is very warm for this time of year. The past two summers we have had cool water temps. Paddled out on my outrigger this am - and headed NW. About a mile off the beach, I ran in to a mega pod of porpoise. Not the larger, coastal variety, but the 4 - 5 foot torpedos. They were jumping right next to me, below me, high pitch com's - awesome show. The speed and power these guys generate lets you know who's ocean it is, and we are just visiting.

Wish i had some pics also. But when balancing on a carbon fiber, 15 in. wide outrigger racing hull, in 2 ft chop, a mile offshore, its a bit difficult to take pictures. :grin:

Good idea Wayne. Some of the top racers in HI have used these and posted video on the web. There is a race that runs from the island of Molokai to Oahu = 32miles. The swells can be 10 - 25 feet on good years, and the top guys can cover this distance is 3 1/2 hours, with peak speeds on swells well over 25 mph. The sport is not very popular in the mainland U.S, but huge in Aus, SA, and HI.
