Mother Nature Kicked our Butt

Thanks. I'll have to check the details on my unit (STS).

There is a downside to the sat weather stuff... It goes back to the whole "ignorance is bliss" thing. I find I get my panties in a bunch when storms are 20 miles away and they may never come over the horizon and hit me. In the old days, I wouldn't care because I couldn't see them. Now I see red crap on the screen and have to track it even though it may never come my way...

I wouldn't trade it for anything though. Best tool in the toolbox.

I've used it inflight on a friend's airplane. It was priceless that day. I personally believe that radar will become defunct for wx purposes in the future.

The best reason I can see to get it is to see which way things are going and see what's coming behind that. Even radar can't do that in all cases.

I just got email from C-Map. Does anyone know about this feature? Is it something that’s really helpful? Can it be used in realtime?

PC-Planner Users Can Now Download Weather

The C-Weather feature is a worldwide probable prediction program, not a real-time weather report. With this release of PC-Planner you are now able to download weather and sea condition predictions to your desk or laptop PC and visually overlay the data on any C-Map chart you currently own.

Prediction data is maintained and updated twice daily at 12-hour intervals.
A four-day prediction window across a 3x3 degree area (180x180 Nm) is downloaded each session via an internet connection between your PC and C-Weather data server.

The weather data includes: wind (speed & direction); weather type, sun, rain, thunderstorm, fog, clouds, partly cloudy, snow; temperature; humidity; and visibility. Sea condition data includes wave (height & direction).

NOTE: Because C-Weather is a very new feature, not all chart plotter models will accept C-Weather data along with the other PC-Planner data through the memory card transfer method.

C-Weather is a standard feature with every new purchase of PC-Planner. Existing users can contact Jeppesen Marine at 1-800-424-2627 and order an upgrade on cd for $10.95 S&H.

Sorry about the font size, it was fine at the source but got large when I pasted it. I couldn't make it smaller.

"It is better to excercise good judgement than good seamanship"

This is a misquote a pilot friend of mine, who once opted to return home rather than make an additional landing attempt at the Bay Bridge airport near Annapolis (single landing strip, prone to having bad crosswinds)

Turtle plus you could get that video for us (Grin)

Ok, I'm on the boat. It's raining pretty hard. Lighting. Damn my hat blew off.

Great, looks like thunder storms tomorrow.

Great, looks like thunder storms tomorrow.

Just remember to take your video recorder this time:grin: I hear they are talking about making a movie out of your last trip. That story just keeps getting bigger and bigger. There was a guy down here in GA the other day talking about this crazy guy with a dingy hanging off the back of his boat going through this massive storm up north off the I think it was the Jersy shore.:smt043:lol:

well upon closer inspection, my dinghy didn't fare as well as I thought. 1 cracked floor board and the gas tank on the outboard has developed a leak somewhere. I also think I got water in the carburetor.

The boat is fine. Tightened down a few screws and all is good.

True.

Nearly sank a jetski yesterday. Second time this year. . . .

I plan, however, to sacrifice a chicken next week.
